And here I thought we elected him to get us out of the 21% inflation mess that Carter created...

Carter appointed Volker in 1979 who was the guy who actually got us out of that mess, Reagan opposed the fed policies.
 
Later Volker went on to be the U.N.-appointed Independent Inquiry Committee into the Oil-for-Food Program, which he chaired.
