Question Which scooter? (used genesis vs seacraft go)

Starting to look at buying a dpv...Considering range, noise etc I am leaning towards seacraft go however saw someone had listed a used dive logic 600 used for about thr same price (listing was a bit confusing as it had a warpcore upgrade and also says genesis 2.0 on thr tail. Anyone have insight on if this might actually be a genesis 2.1 or how thr 3 1 2.1 700 differ? Also what would you choose...Seacraft go? Used genesis?

Usecase: South Florida rec dives mostly

I'd just have a Genesis 2.1/3.1 in that case.

It's not <$1000, but if you have a 1200, you could get it converted to a Warp Core. You could even have a 3.2 Warp Core, a 3.2 tube, and a 3.1 tube and then reconfigure the Warp Core to the 3.1 size for when you want to use the scooter that way.

Or just convert the 1200 to a 3.1, if you don't really need 1200 W-Hr...

My Genesis was a 2.2 when I got it. I converted it to a 2.1 and sold the long tube and the extra half of the Warp Core. And did not lose money...
Oh I know those are options.
But I can make something smaller and still have the big tube when I need it. I'm quite hand that way.
When my current set of batteries die I'll likely send it in to be made into a 3.1 or the current equivalent. Mainly because the new motor controller should be quieter and I like the idea of the battery status LEDs in the clear tubing.
 
Valid point - assuming you are saying that having the sealed port open (or leaking) during a dive would create some kind of problem.

I don't know the other scooters well enough.

Do you know what scooters claimed to offer sealed hull charging, but have a sealed port that would cause a problem if it was open or leaking during a dive?

Jon may not want to call out the competition specifically.

What about the Seacraft Future and Ghost? Do they have charging ports that would cause a problem if open or leaking?
I can only speak for the Seacraft Go. It is a completely sealed, external charging port. It comes with a little color coordinatedcap to hide the connector, but I usually forget to put it back and dive with it off. Enclosed is a picture, you can see the connector and the cap right below it.

Little late to the party, can confirm the Go is a nice use case for specific needs of divers.

Do I own one? Nah... I have two Genesis 3.1's... no need.

Do I recommend it to some of my buddies? Yep, all day. I can price them equal with two battery changes but some buddies are focused on the initial MSRP in which the Go obviously wins at ~$5k.

Would I buy a similar sized scooter from Logic Dive Gear if Jon ever decided to make a true 'competitor' in the Go's 'class'?
- Honestly probably, it would work well for the type of diving my girlfriend does. Light and on vacation. It might also eliminate the need for me to lug two Genesis 3.1's across the boat/beach. The Genesis is too heavy for her while her gear is on, but I'd rather lug two scooters on land than compromise the quality of the dive. :wink:

Non proprietary batteries and all, Genesis pounds Seacraft into the Marianas trench where they will go to implode at.... many meters.... nevermind.... not to mention Logic Dive Gear is in the US and Seacraft is Polish I believe? Although Seacraft does have a legit presence in the states too.

For what its worth >=half of my buddies have Genesis (1200 upgraded to 2.2, 600 upgraded to 2.1, 3.1 like me) - one buddy has a Go which I've played with a bit and others have an array of Blacktips and Cudas / DiveX products. The Go is a solid 2nd place in the group but it can't share a stick at anything Logic Dive Gear has made. Even the owner of the CudaX Tech/Exploration was impressed with my 3.1's speed and handling when I let him borrow it once.

@Jon Nellis any secret plans to make a ~20lb 'mini' scooter in the near future? :wink:
 
I'm a hobby machinist and tinkerer. An AL80 has enough "meat" to be turned to fit the Genesis back end. Pretty sure I could get something down below 30# and 450-500WH would give me 90 minutes at my usual cruise. A custom pack with Bluetooth to enable/disable and a charging pigtail on a basic wet connector.
If you ever attempt this I am very, very interested to hear how it goes.

Also wouldn't you want a tank 8" diameter to match the original diameter of the Genesis - 8" right?
 
The genesis is a much more capable scooter. But that assumes you need its capabilities.

What is your use case?

I could be wrong but I think it's not 8".
If that's the case I maybe be out of luck.

That's like asking Lamborghini to make a 4 cylinder compact. I'll let the other brands battle it out in their race to the bottom.

Totally fair. The only category Genesis isn’t miles ahead of all of the rest is dry land weight, for smaller (female) divers.

Ha. Yeah nailed that to a T. We started with Blacktips and quickly moved on… not an uncommon path though. I’ve been slowly converting the rest of the dive crew to Genesis
