One reel to rule them all...
There's a reason that the Halcyon Pathfinder reel is the standard by which all others are measured. (How often do you hear "...almost as good as the Pathfinder."??)

I've never heard that in my life.

I use a DiveRite sidewinder. I don't personally see what people are complaining about. After 2 years of use I have had zero problems with it. I have not jammed it even in high flow caves or had any issues with it after dropping it in muddy/silty lake bottoms. I have used the LG reels and just do not see a difference. I do however NOT like the tradition, non-sidewinder style. Seem much more awkward to use.

I got really good at catching all the parts of DiveRite reels as the barrels came off the handles in heavy surf when I was doing more beach dives than cave dives. The barrel material itself is fragile, compared to the plexi and delrin barrels on competing models. *shrugs*

I use a Larry Green. I did not bird nest it coming out of the Devil's Ear, but it was not a pretty exit. I discovered later that I had somehow left it there after I was done. Who knows? Anyway, I got it back, and I still like it anyway.

Ditto . . . called it the evil reel . . . gave it to my tech/mix class buddy . . . he loves it :idk:

If your buddy is who I think it is, he has some strange tastes.

I've birds-nested a Halcyon reel. It can be done :)

I had been using a Manta reel, but it's big and bulky in my hand and I'm ready to try something else

Is it the old Manta or the current model with the AFS (anti-free spool) device?

The Jr (small) or Sr (large)?

I don't know where TSandM got her Salvo reel, but my Salvo 400 has an aluminum handle and metal locking screw, and it is so-o-o smooth. I highly recommend getting a Salvo reel before they disappear.
