Why do you regret about Luxfer neutral 80?

Several reasons, first is its not needed so I paid more money for something that wasn't needed, second it was a 3300 psi tank due to being thicker to acheive neutral bouancy and NO ONE I repeat NO ONE ever gave me 3300, by the time it cooled I was looking at 2900 because everyone grabbed at it and assumed 3000 psi, always 300- 400 psi short

OK, thanks.

I am glad with Luxfer, because Luxfer has a neutral buoyancy and I use for the technical diving.

I guess more than anyone, new divers can benefit from this thread. I wish I had known about this board years ago. The first mistake was to buy soft soled dive boots. Walking on coral ruble will kill your feet in softies. Next an "Air" only computer. Got Nitrox certified within a few months of that. Next mistake, bought a "bail out bottle" (fortunately sold it on e-bay for what I paid for it) Next a cheapie Octo regulator for my poney bottle. It came apart into my hand. hmmmm
Big huge cannon type dive lights. Scared the Willy out of the reef fish in Bonaire. Later bought a C-4 A couple of cheap masks over the years (leakers from the get go)
Moral of the story...Buy good gear and anticipate your real needs.

Engagement ring

An engagement ring AND a tattoo with my name and my now-ex-wife's name with our wedding date. D'Oh!!! :lotsalove:

As far as dive gear ... a Dacor Viper regulator. This is just my opinion and you may love yours, but for me it was a mistake. I'm glad I kept my old Sherwood so I could go back to it.

Easy for me.. just about everything I've bought so far.

Mask doesn't fit my face correctly and I spent about $80 on it. Leaks non-stop and I can't afford a different one.
Fins are a little too small on my feet - should have gone up in size, then I probably could even wear them with a drysuit. I love my fins themselves, but if I get a bigger size, I'll get black/charcoal instead of black/yellow.
Diva BC - not enough places to clip things and I spent way too much money on it. I should have spent about $500 less and gotten one with more clips. I also have to unhook one of the shoulder straps to get into it as I can't twist my arm around to slide it into the small opening. It's an extra pain that I don't like dealing with. I'd probably not get the AIRII as well, because I like the streamlining but I don't like using it. I have to hold it into my mouth, otherwise I'll get water in from one side because it tries to tug out of my mouth, plus it's a pain to manually inflate the BC (which I had to do several times in class but never on a dive) with the AIRII.
Snorkel - ignorantly paid $50 for it and I had to invent a way to attach it to my BC for AOW class. I can't stand it because it doesn't hook to my mask strap well and tugs on my ear or pulls the mask away from my face, and it's too big to just stick in a pocket. I'd have gone for a folding snorkel if I'd known I'd hate it this much.

I'm still debating on what I'm going to get for a computer. I know what reg I'll be getting, just have to save up for it.

Overall, my biggest regret was listening to the LDS and believing everything they told me, thereby buying far more expensive gear than I should have.

old school jacket bc, and a 'complete set' of reg, octo, first stage etc. (from a supplier that will remain anon.) I replaced it all within two weeks.

hope im not saying the same thing this time next year...........

Biggest regret was listening to my instructor tell me that "all the real divers wear split fins" and paid $250 for those stupid fins that I hate wearing.
I am slowly replacing all of my newly-certified ow gear with the stuff I really want and need. I am exchanging my:
back -inflate BC for a BP/W,
console computer for a wrist mounted computer,
the mask that matched my snorkel for one that actually fits well,
and the split fins for Slipstreams w/ spring straps.
I was lucky in that I borrowed my buddy's Aqualung Legend LX regulator for about a year before realizing that I hated the way it breathed. I purchased my own reg (Zeagle Flathead 6) and I love it!
Oh, and I haven't actually used a snorkel since my AOW class. Come to think of it, I didn't even actually use it then, it just hung lifeless from my mask strap. I wish I could have gotten certified without having to purchase this worthless piece of gear.

what did I buy that I regret? A partnership in a dive shop with a freaking crook! I thought I knew the guy pretty well. He was known in the area as a really great guy. His previous partner was a rich college kid and he was useless. He wanted out of the business and my "friend" would have to close the doors if that happened. So I jumped at the opportunity to be an owner. I was a fiber optic engineer traveling for MCI Telecom at the time. MAking good money but was never home. I was hoping that my investment would allow me to at least pay the bills if I stopped traveling to be home with the wife. I was 2000 miles away on the job and got a call from PADI and NAUI lawyers wanting to know a few answers. After a very lengthy two week correspondence and a few meetings of me and my attorney with them, they agreed to not file suit if I agreed to cooperate with them. I had to shut the doors, sell off everything, and agree to testify in a criminal case against my "friend". Turns out that the instructor I was using for classes was turning in twice the amount of certs than he was being paid for. I asked him about it and he did not turn them in, my partner did. My partner was teaching classes while not being a certified instructor and signing my instructor's name. He figured that with twice the head count, we could make twice the money. While he was very smart and a very experienced diver and the students I talked to said he taughtvery well, it was a very dangerous and irresponsible thing to do. When the students he taught went through another class with a certified instructor, the instructor told me they were taught very well. I just wonder why the moron didn't go through the instructor course in the first place to make it all legal. Sure it costs money, but when I put money in to become a partner, I would have agreed to get him certified to teach. I just don't understand some people.

sorry for the long post, got to ranting and lost track. even 11 years later, I am STEAMING MAD!! I do hope to have another shop someday though!!
