WALTER,
Our buddy lines are like 10 or 12 feet long. I will have to measure them to be absolutely positive. But they are deffinately long.
Is this unusual??
We have yet to use them though. I can deffinately agree that it is best to have a buddy line. Can you share any techniques that are best to use with them??

That's pretty long for a buddy line. Why did you make them that long? It's better to stay close in low visibility. While we had excellent visibility last weekend and I certainly hope we get similar conditions, I really don't expect to be so lucky. I'll make several spare lines tonight, not many folks have responded, so I don't know how many need them.

If anyone is interested, I'll be happy to give a dive briefing, which will include use of buddy lines, surf entry and exit, how to find fossils, and what critters you can expect to encounter while cruising around. I'll also have some examples of fossils (not just shark teeth) that can be found if you keep your eyes peeled. I'll bring my screen box so the non divers can look for teeth in the surf zone.

I'll be bringing 1 (maybe 2) member(s) of my dive club with me.

It should be lots of fun.

Walter will even show us how to stay "attached" to your buddy line, and to check the other end every now and then to see if a shark has stripped the bait! :tease:

We didn't make them, they were bought this way...I generally stay close to medical1 as there is no one more concerned with my well being than him and myself...
We had pretty good viz both days further down (near sharkys) last weekend too..Though I admit the viz was best our earliest dive..I don't expect viz to be great since our numbers are great :D
I personally would love to talk to you some as we are somewhat new to this fossil hunting and still have difficulty with identification..You are a man with a wealth of info...
Thanks

My usual buddies and me are never that far apart. I think of it this way, how fast can you swim in 10-12 feet underwater to get air to your buddy. I use a 7' primary hose that I donate in OOA situations, but if you use a standard sized hose on the reg you donate, then you have to swim that much farther to a buddy. If I was you I could make your buddy line a bit shorter. I rather have a shorter buddy line and occasioanlly bump into my buddy than not.

Wendy, Thanks...I will have to see what I can do to shorten these...or atleast 1...(maybe even just tie a couple knots to take up some material slack)...I will think of something
:hmmm:
Note: we have dove venice area all but 1 weekend for the past 2 months.

Wendy,

It doesn't matter how long your hose is, if I run OOA, I still need to make it all the way to you before I can get some of your air. That 7 ft hose isn't sticking straight out toward me.

Pete,

Are you making sure the ducks have buddy lines, or do I need to count them when I make lines tonight? I don't mind making them, but I need to know.

Deb,

I'll have some buddy lines for you.

Walter,

That would certainly be interesting to me! I'll be sure to bring my hearing aid.....:)

Sorry I was hardly awake when I was trying to make a point this morning. My point was supposed to be, I rather have my buddy 6 feet away from me than 12 feet away from me if I need him/her.
