Jim you are absolutely right; not having a full understanding of what you are doing could have disasterous consequences.

I don't recommend anyone drill their regs. Who said drill?

Or heck I'll just buy a used whip on ebay or a 2nd tank

Also remember that if one of you is wearing a 50cf tank and the other an 80cf that 500psi (or whatever reserve you use) isn't the same amount of air in both tanks. That reserve is not for the person wearing the tank, but for their buddy.

That means that if something went wrong and the person wearing the 80cf tank (presumably the one who goes through air faster) goes OOA, they have a smaller reserve available to them. The last 500psi is for both buddies, and it's not always enough for both in a stressed situation.

Cheers! Dive safe.

Thanks,

And good point. Our diving will be safe and mostly in the water 15-20'. Guranteed I will be on top of my daughters spg

If you can scroung up a couple of old used tank pressure checkers have NAPA make you a HP hose with 1/4" pipe thread ends, remove the gauges and install the hose in the pressure checkers.

I see your talking about a stand alone tank guage with a built in yolk remove the guages and put an hp hose. Thanks thats a good idea too.

Jeez, what a bunch of nervous nellies you guys are. Dumpster, thanks for the classic line "you're gonna put an eye out with that thing" and the exciting embolism story.

Back on planet earth, ever had an o-ring in a SPG blow, or a HP hose? It happens, big deal. What about a tank o-ring? That's another HP leak. There's nothing different about this.

And how did this thread morph into a safe-diving-with-your-daughter thread?

Just trying to keep the peace Mattboy I'm usually the guy the tells everyone to suck one before I know their personality prohibits them from thinking like me and then 3 years later I'm trying to buy something from them and don't get a good deal because I acted like a horses behind

So I'm now trying to use some of my age and wisdom the to calmly say while I don't agree with their viewpoint I respect their concern.

Well and it's late and I"m snowed in so maybe the apistle about safe diving was not well placed. But I was just trying to put this thread to sleep so I could go post about finding some unwanted regs for an unamed project I have in mind.

I didn't fully catch the embolism now that was funny! Well worth a re-read.

Here is one I made for next to nothing. I had the pressure checkers laying around for years and picked up a stainless steel braided, teflon lined hose at a scrap sale.

theres one guage on ebay it's at $10 plus 10 in shipping.

This is gonna be one of the projects where I wait to find some junk folks don't want anymore. No rush it's just an idea to keep in the back of my mind and now I have a couple good ideas on how to get there.

Thanks to all

Ok my daughter will be using a 50 cf tank. They are harder to come by and thus more expensive than just an 80. So my question is what do I need to move air from 1 tank to another. Yes I realize it won't fill up as the bleed will stop when each tank is the same psi. Thats ok we are just doing shallow water diving. So if we go for 15 min or 30 min it's ok. But it will come down to why hall 2 50 cf tanks and 2 80's when I can hall 3 80's and 1 50. At 53lbs and 4'6" tall unless she's freezing I bet she sucks down half a 50 in the same time I suck down an 80.

If the cost is a hundred bucks well I guess I'll just buy a 2nd 50 and be done with it. But if the cost is more like $25 then hey that makes sense.

Why do not you just get the second tank and have them filled. You will be getting short fills on that 50 all the time, My guess it would be closer to 30-35 cuf range. Very little gas even for a small person. I would just get a second tank and have it filled full all the time.

Just took a shower and hit me I can sacrifice to unused junk 1st stages remove the piston and internal guts and hook high pressure hose up to low pressure ports with out even drilling and then put a bleeder hose on another port.

That won't work.
