I'm looking at the marine weather reports for this weekend and was planning a dive at Fort Wetherill on Saturday. Does anyone know which area the dive site falls into for weather forcasting? If it falls under Narragansett Bay things might not be too bad. Anywhere else looks pretty rough.
Thanks in advance..

Both coves at Fort Wetherill are south facing. Unless the weather is *really* *really* bad, the waves within the cove will be fairly calm unless there is a wind blowing nearly due south. Wave height forecasts that you find on NOAA are generally not applicable to shore diving unless a swell is specified, which will cause very surgey conditions regardless of wind direction. Even if the wind is a little bit to the SE, it will probably be ok since it is in the lee of Newport.

Conditions werent too bad today. You could see the bottom from the shore, but that was deceiving. Left cove was better of the two, 10-15' vis, getting around to the right cove (boat ramp) vis was +/-5'. Really varying....we got into one area and as we slipped into the pea soup I could hear my buddy laughing. It was like swimming into a fog....
Seas seemed pretty calm, only a little choppy. The waves began to roll in as we were packing up for the day.

It was so nice I almost decided to go on a shore dive in the giant puddle forming outside my office during my lunch break. :D

Oh, did I forget to mention the rain was coming down nicely by the 2nd dive???hehehe I was dry for the most part in the suit until changing. So much better than diving wet in that respect, but let me just say I need a P-VALVE!!!!! Holy cow.....it was an added stress I am not used to during a dive!:D
