We’re thinking about hitting King’s Beach. Haven’t been in a couple of years.

Hey folks, can anyone recommend any charters in RI?

Giant stride was the only one I knew of and I thought they cut way back on their local charters. I could be wrong. Check out their website and give them a call.

I’ve don’t know of any charter’s, per se, but Giant Stride Dive Shop has local charter trips now and then. Not sure if they have anything coming up. Giant Stride Dive Shop | Scuba Classes in Rhode Island

Thanks for the reply HappyDiver! I called them a few weeks ago and spoke with a really nice guy. I told him I was looking to dive the U-853. He told me that charters really aren't a big part of his business and he only runs them infrequently as a courtesy to customers of his shop. He said all the rest of the charters he was running this year were full and unfortunately was not able to recommend any other charters but he was nice enough to put me on a call list if anyone canceled.

Well, we got to King’s Beach around 7:15 Saturday morning and the lot was full. Kayakers GALORE!!! I had no idea. Soooo….we went to FW. It was basically empty when we got there. Tide was low, visibility varied from 3 ft to around 10. My wife says it’s the best dive she has had there! Lot’s of flounder, sea stars, a few crabs. Lots of fish once we got over to the little cove on the west wall. I haven’t seen any horseshoe crabs this year, and I can’t remember the last time I saw a skate. Has to be nearly 4 years now.
An hour and 20 minute dive, max depth 29’ with an average of 16’. It was cold, though. 67 degrees according to my computer, 65 on her’s. Maybe it’s just me getting older, but I think my 7 mm will be my suit of choice from now on.
We were getting out just as most of the classes were hitting the water, so I almost got run over by a group of 3 that came in from my right. Otherwise, good stuff!

You remind me of my days diving there in the 80's and 90's. Most beautiful days. Thank you!

Sounds like a nice day. Never made it out. Ended up doing a local lake dive to retrieve sunglasses people lost off of a dock.

Dove ft w this am. Only one other diver. Conditions calm and sunny. Vis around 5’. Temp 66. 45 mins 25’. Very fishy with many blackfish, Black Sea bass and some scup. Small and large starfish.
