Gee when I first saw this post I knew it would bring out all the "real" men. Bottom line for me is I don't really care. Buddy is fine with me and I don't mind being called someone's dive buddy. Though I did like the dive comrade. It brings out the pinko commie, leftist, feminist, hippie, homo in me.

By the way this picture rocks

The photo is highly immature and insulting, and should never have been posted. I'm amazed that the moderator allowed it to be re-posted for more laughs.

Has nothing to do with SCUBA and belittles our Savior, and His sacrifice.

The follow-up hee-haws by other posters were similarly disappointing and likewise insulting and hurtful.

Bratface....as a fellow health professional, you obviously knew the photo was hurtful and insulting to many Christians, but chose to repost the photo with a coy response. Take a moment to reflect the next time before joining the keyboard bullies.

Lighten up!!

This whole thread has been making fun of PC terminology which exists only because so many people are so thin skinned. If someone find something funny then they laugh and share the joke. If you don't find it funny, then don't laugh. But please don't bust on those of us who do.

Use the time you spend thinking up stuff like this helping with a soup kitchen, cleaning up a reef, habitat for humanity, reading to school kids, etc..

Nobody was sitting around the good-ole-buddy water cooler when they came up with the term buddy and saying "hey diving is a good-ole-buddy club and we don't like outsiders so let's call your dive partner a buddy just to aggravate them".

It is a word, it means precisely what it means "the person that you dive with". Get over it and move on.

Here is a test to take before you start out on a mission next time.

"Will this make somebody's life better"

Call them partner versus buddy ----- NO
Donate clothing ----- YES
Help build them a home -----YES
Read a story to a child -----YES

The soup kitchen just paged you; are you still wasting time on your computer??:shakehead
:D

Tonka, perhaps you should follow your own advice regarding "keyboard bullies". You make fun of rockjock3's post of making the world a better place by helping people and even mention a soup kitchen in a pathetic attempt at garnering a laugh. I'm not defending anything here, it just seemed to me you should reflect on your actions as well as others.

Isn't the politically correct term "significant other"? :D
vs. partner.

LOL. I think the distinction is that a person may be able to get health insurance for one but not the other. However, I WOULDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT!

Brings a new meaning to the term "bottom time".

Grow a skin....

you need to DROP YOUR HOMOPHOBIA and bang a drum or something in the woods with a bunch of half-naked guys

...with... er... feathers in their hair ...

and leather outfits....

(damn this sounds bad)

No it's okay. I heard as long as you don't know the difference between a "Men's Group" and a "Men's Club" you should be okay. Whatever they each mean.

Wow! As a recovering Catholic, it was this sort of atttitude that turned so many people away from the religion and/or Christianity as a whole. People need to find humor where it exists and be able to take life with a grain of salt. This was funny. It was creative and amusing. If you can't keep life in perspective, you take your self WAAAAYY too seriously. I do not mean to detract from your religion, nor belittle it, but this was something meant in fun, not something to encite the masses. Political and religious cartoons are just that, they make people step back and realize that life isn't always serious. it creates awareness AND makes people smile. ;)
I'll make you a deal, don't snsor what I may find amusing, and I'll not belittle your opinion.

The term 'buddy' sucks IMO; it has an associated 'good ole boy' connotation that is sexist and demeaning. It may work with describing adolescent boys' friends, but it should end there.

Suggest beginning to use the term 'partner' and see if the 'buddy' relic can be swept into the dust bin.

The term "partner" sucks, it has connotations with "gay lifestyle" (not that theres anything wrong with that). It may work in describing a significant other but I won't introduce my dive buddy as my partner.

Suggest keeping the term "Buddy", it has strong roots in the military, as in "your buddy will cover your back", "your buddy can save your life"

Comrade diver: has a ring to it......

"Say, Comrade Diver, see those to dive partners over there? They used to be buddies'

I like Comrade Diver, too. But not Comrade, always "Comrade Diver".

But when China takes over none of this will matter anymore. What's the proper chinese phrase?
