The term 'buddy' sucks IMO; it has an associated 'good ole boy' connotation that is sexist and demeaning. It may work with describing adolescent boys' friends, but it should end there.

Suggest beginning to use the term 'partner' and see if the 'buddy' relic can be swept into the dust bin.

bud·dy:...
1. A good friend; a comrade.
2. A partner, especially one of a pair or team associated under the buddy system.
3. Friend or comrade; chum. Used as a form of familiar address, especially for a man or boy: Watch it, buddy.
intr.v. bud·died, bud·dy·ing, bud·dies
To associate as a buddy or buddies: buddied around with the older guys.
Phrasal Verb:
buddy up
To ingratiate oneself, as by presuming friendship: buddied up to the coach in hopes of making the team.

If you are trying to be funny, you succeeded!. If you are serious, you are being ridiculous. Where are you going with this? Are you going to tell the divemaster that you refused to dive with anyone who refuses to call you his partner? Are you laying the ground work to sue divers that insult you by calling you a dive buddy? I can see it now..a class action suit against a newbie by several divers that were called a buddy. Get real dude.:shakehead

My mask is for wearing on forehead skin. Spare is affixed left buttocks cheek pocket. Both Oceanic Datamask HUD.

Comrade Diver, I proud too to have Diver's Inwater Computer. Older with wet finger control. When goes down must lick fingers and stroke it. Sometime I let it hang out. Sometime I keep it in holster. Always not to carefuly drag through fire coral.

Why would you give proof that your argument is missplaced? The very definition you provided for buddy is the exact reason we call fellow divers "buddies". I mean, even though we occasionally argue about whether diving is best done in a buddy system, it is sanctioned as such.

Maybe you would prefer to be my dive monkey, or dive goat, or dive hawk. Please do not call me your dive partner!

Comrade Diver,

DA, ScubaPro EDI? Good for use in dive aquatic. Occasion I use with no power battery. Many useless licking of fingers and computers was occur!
Experience difficulty with carry spare Dive Computer EDI in left buttocks cheek pocket.

Man, I stay off the computer a single day, and look at everything I missed! More flaming arrows than a Medieval seige, pictures posted and pulled before I can even glimpse 'em, and now the language has taken on a decidedly...er..."international" flavor. Ahem...I hesitate to use that word in this context, considering the direction of the conversation at the moment and the propensity of some people to question the context of many innoccuous words. Hey, what the heck? I'll take the risk.

Can't wait for Monday so I can keep closer tabs on what's going on. (Don't tell my boss...)
