Is it possible to purchase this as a second stage only? Anyone know where if so?
Hi EyeScuba13,

I can sell you just the second stage, Scubapro G260 Carbon BT. I don't think that I have one in stock, so I will need to order it. How soon do you need it?

Thanks,
Casey

G260 Carbon ST:

I cheated and bought the covers.
did the covers fit right on without any further modifications?

The rear case is the same. There are differences in the top covers however. The standard hard cover has a captive slip ring so that removal of the cover allows immediate removal of the diaphragm without danger of losing the slip ring. The carbon cover uses a non-captive slip ring. The slip ring anti-rotation tab installs into the little slot in the case (at 3 o'clock) that you might not have noticed, but it is there. No modifications are required, only parts swaps.

The carbon fiber cover is real carbon fiber but it is not really structural. It does support the purge button cup. The purge button, purge button cup is all the same. You can remove the cup and button from the standard cover and it will go right into the carbon cover. You will need the tab slip ring. The purge button decal is dark for the BT, the standard is silver, I preferred the silver and reused my existing parts.

Here is the standard cover with the integral (blue) slip ring. The slip ring cannot be moved to the carbon fiber cover, it must use a tab type slip ring :(.

So, if you are rough on gear, and like to drag it around on concrete and bang it against tanks and hard headed strokes or are an actual cave diver or tech diver who may need to take apart the second stage underwater then the standard G260 is the bomb, the real deal, the top dawg! If you want pretty, well, that is why Scubapro gave you a choice, because either way, down deep, you want the best, or at least the prettiest .

BTW, that integral type slip ring cover is an extra approximate $150 for an Atomic. If they still can provide it.

'Thought same, before being corrected by buddhasummer.

You can actually still use the blue ones, they just won't clip into faceplate, but they work.

Thank you for the detailed description.
I definitely want the prettiest! :)

Yes, the blue slip ring will fit with the CF covers but it is not retained by the clips. The slip ring with the anti-rotation tab is the specified part but I am tempted to cut that tab off anyways so the blue rings would have done as well. The anti-rotation tab purpose is to prevent the slip ring from turning as the cover is tightened down and possibly damaging or unseating the diaphragm. Of course the blue slip ring does not have a anti-rotation tab and none of my G250 slip rings do and this has never been a problem. I guess in the end I wanted to keep the original covers ready to go for those times when being pretty is secondary to being just functional. :)

I am so pretty and charming, I can hardly believe I am real, when I dive with my fancy rich diver Carbon Silver Tech Scubapro G260 ;):

Turning slip ring is not an issue I've ever encountered either. My AL ones have no lock either. As James said above, some G250 ones had little tabs but they all break off with age, some iterations, Graphite for example never had tabs🤷‍♂️ I like to see the hint of blue when I use R195 covers on G260s.
