Would you recommend the 350 or 400? I might be able to sneak in a few more before my wife kicks me out.
Ok ok... I had to look. I found a nice D400 with a mk15 and will be arriving shortly. I am having trouble sourcing a service kit for a reasonable price. Any suggestions?

Ok I'm signing off for a bit. I could be diving a sweet A700 with how much I've been dropping on old regulators this past month.

Yeah, but it wouldn't have the same class!

First see what you've got. The d400 comes with two types of internals as noted previously. These things are more complicated than the 108 or 109, but worth it for the performance, IMO.

Warning: learning Curve Ahead.

PS: Ever had an interest in Double Hose Regulators? o_O

Just stop! Haha I look forward to learning about them. In another life I was ASE master diesel technician and had more than normal exposure to valves and the general inside workings. I'll let you know when it gets here. We will take it from there.
Thanks!

Sir,

I have trod the same path you now tread. It started with the Vintage Dive Hose YouTube on servicing G250’s, which emboldened me to expand my “horizons” to the 109/156 regulators, which then led me to the D series. After sending a couple of the “D’s“ to @rsingler, along with two Pilots (one original) and several Air-1’s, Rob suggested I may be better served by learning to service them (all but the original Pilot) myself. So, with no particular previous mechanical experience, I have managed to become a “moderately“ proficient servicer of all. Emphasis on the moderately!! And, I now own at least half a dozen of each.

As an aside, I also own a D420, and, blasphemous though it may be, I perceive no in-water (albeit relatively shallow and warm) performance enhancement over the D400’s (which I cannot distinguish from my 350’s).

Best

I look forward to experiencing the benefits of the d series.
