A repository of links that are considered SCAMS on scuba diving equipment sales in order to help or alert other divers of possible fraudulent dealings. A place where SB users can search for (like phone numbers reported as robot-calls scams) information on reported "fraudulent" business. (i.e.; scubaprosale.com)

I believe that "mwtayl" may be part of a scam....only 5 posts...last [to me?] at 0200...I checked this Sierra Diving Center staff listing and no Scott is listed as a staff member...will call the store when they open a PST 1000..

This was for USD ABS triple parts and I sent an email to this Scott with no reply...

Smells all wrong!

Perhaps the Forum Moderator or Chairman can check into this?

Thanks...Phil

Did not see a Scott @ Sierra Dive Center staff listing.
Thanks, and I agree that he has all the hallmarks of a scammer. He is no longer allowed on the site. Unfortunately, he'll be back under another username.

Yes, I am old...and there is no fool like an old fool...but I am learning, even if sometimes the hard way.. "first time shame on you; second time shame on me"...

Thanks for your actions...

Phil

Did not see a Scott @ Sierra Dive Center staff listing.

He responded to my FS ad this morning. I checked out his name. He had 5 posts and had just joined the same day as he inquired about my BCD. Here is a link where he posted.

Earlier called Sierra Dive Center...no Scott worked there...got email below from "Scott"...see my questions and his response...many "red flags"..just filed a scam report with FCC....damn...tough to find out who and what is legitimate!

Scott,

"Please give me a reference currently working at Sierra Dive Center that I can verify with them that you worked there, and this is not a scam.

Thanks…Phil

Some of the listings are obvious, but has anyone experienced fraud from another member? Are those members removed or banned quickly?

Just encountered another scam. This time from a local diver. This is important as it is something that we had not seen before.

The individual purchased a used AL30 and valve in person from us. There was a very slight leak in the valve and we told the individual that we needed to service it before he could have it. He insisted on taking it in that day, un-serviced. He also borrowed a rigging kit. He agreed to bring it back the tank for the free valve servicing as soon as he was done with it. He was also going to return the rigging kit at the same time.

He never showed up. We thought we would never see him again and that our rigging kit was stolen.

Some time days later, we saw the tank with our rigging kit in another dive shop being filled. We took our rigging kit back. We told the dive shop owner who we know well that if the individual had a problem with us recovering our stolen rigging kit to come see us.

Fast forward thru a bunch of BS....

The individual ends up telling us that he is going to keep the tank and valve, but is going to reverse the credit card charges for the cost that we charged him for the free servicing of the valve. We actually never charged him anything for the free valve servicing and he never brought the tank back for servicing anyway.

What he actually did was reverse the entire credit card charge for the tank and valve simply saying that he did not get what he paid for.

We contested the credit reversal and won. The credit card company refunded us back the original charge.

So not only did this person attempt to steal our rigging kit, but he also attempted to steal the AL30 and valve. We briefly considered filing theft charges, but did not as we ultimately got back both our rigging kit and our money.

The amount of effort that we expended in this process was way more than the cost of the tank and valve, but sometimes the principle of the matter is more important.

What I find interesting in this case is that the actual scammer is attempting to scam the victim and both credit card banks by claiming that the victim is actually scamming the scammer.

As an amusing side story, during this process, the individual accused us of being unprofessional for not allowing him to steal from us.
