Suggestion Q about "banned" words

I have a quick question about banned words here on SCUBAbaord - how exactly does a word get put on "the list". I understand putting profanity and whatnot on the list, but have been surprised by a few of the words which get starred out - certain 1940's-era German political movements for example.

Just curious...

Except there's way more than 7. But creative people like Carlin always found ways to get around them. Here we can use equivalencies. For example ...

mother*******er = father
b***h = ex-wife, girlfriend, or spouse-equivalent unit (SEU) ... whichever applies
b*****d = ex-husband, boyfriend, or SEU ... whichever applies
N**I = DIR
s*** = PADI
