I’d like to come help with the clean up, but I find it kinda odd that they “request” us to pay to volunteer our time. I’m not trying to sound cheap, but after giving our time and paying all our own travel expenses, isn’t it a little much to ask us to pay also? When the rivers flood they never ask volunteers to pay to come sandbag.

Well even though I have never been there I would think that $25.00 is fair. They are providing lunch, air fills, and boat transportation. I could be wrong about what they provide since I have never been there but that is the way I take it from the website. Next year when I get to go I will gladly pay the $25.00

As stated earlier, the cost goes to offset the costs of the boats, air, etc. You're not just picking up garbage, you get to dive some nice sites and you'll enjoy the dive just like you will any dive, except you have a couple bags with you and instead of just looking at the trash you'll toss it in your bag and take it out.

You might be on the duck, or a pontoon boat, or even shore dive. You'll get your $25 worth out of the event, couple air fills is $10, lunch maybe $5 and now we're down to $10 left. Figure the normal pontoon trip is $60 and you're getting it for $10 because you're helping clean up.

That's a win win situation for everyone, we get to dive at a reduced cost because we're helping to clean up, I'd do that anytime.

Like Matthew said, the fee is to off set the expenses of lunch, air, and boat fuels. Keep in mind, the $25 is optional, not required. But then again, if you weigh the cost of a 2 tank dive from Scuba Sports, you're getting off pretty cheap, even if you rent tanks at $10 per tank per day. That still comes out to $45 not $60, plus you get free air fills for as long as they keep the function going that day.

At $4-6 per fill, even if you fill just once and get a total of 4 dives in, you're coming out on the positive side of the deal.

I follow what you guys are saying. When I first heard about it I thought it would be cool to use my diving skills for a community service, but when I heard there was a fee it just changed my prospective. If you think of it as a recreational boat dive, than I’m sure it’s pretty cheap.

Apparently there is some confusion on the subject of a fee for Scuba Sports' "Project Aware". The link will take you to the informational page. Please note that in parenthesis, just under the first info line, it states THERE IS NO FEE TO PARTICIPATE.

However, if you would like to make a $25 donation at the event, they will appreciate it greatly. They are offering lunch, boat travel on the lake to dive sites, and free air fills for those participating. I think that's worth a donation. Look at it this way, you'll get to dive and possibly meet some new people.

Come dive with us for Project Aware. It will be fun!

Not to mention you don't have to give $25, they'll take whatever you wish to give whether it's $0 or more.

You also get to win something in the give a ways later on, well it seemed everybody won something, even if it was an audio tape I never listened to...

My trash bag is bigger than yours...

Has anyone else committed to this yet?

If you're planning on going, but haven't visited Scuba Sports website to sign up, please do so. The sign up list is what they will use to predict the turn out for lunch. Remember, it's free, but a donation would be welcomed.
