Ok, The buzz in around the pond is that Michigan is looking for ways to get more tax money out of the Diving community.

1. Their’s talk of passing a law that would require divers to have a permit, tag or sticker to dive in the Great Lakes.

2. There is also talk of putting a tax on air fills. (Isn’t that great, Your Gov wants to tax air)

So, I’m asking you, My Fellow Americans are fore or against.

(If you are against please don’t for get to voice your thoughts on this matter to Lansing.)

Regards, George

P.S. The next thing you’ll know they’ll want to put a tax on our tea. ( I know it’s a silly idea.)

And that's what we get after a bunch of idiots voted in our Canadian govenor again! Jennifer and her mantra " In five years you'll be blown away!", do ya think she was talking about all those people leaving Mich?
You want taxes, just vote for a liberal lawyer (Jennifer), if you want the business end of the State to straighten out you should have given a business man a chance to be Gov.
We need to have someone that knows what they are doing in charge, all we are going to get is more taxes and more business leaving our State.
The whole union mentallity is wrecking and has wrecked Mich. There has come a time when the unions have to go, including the MEA!

Just a few rants/thoughts :>@

This is the same governor that wanted to tax doctors to fund medicaid program. Why don't we then tax bars/liquor stores for taking care of alcoholics, malpractice lawyers for increasing cost of health care, nurses, medics, etc. etc. etc.

To select one group to tax and exempt other implies discrimation. That's what happen when you have a liberal democrat in charge ...

In Indiana, we have several permits as part of the boat registration process. Basically, user fees. If MI wants to add a Great Lakes user fee, provided its reasonable ($20 year or so) and specifically directed to fund say the underwater parks, I would have no problem with it. If its just another way to generate revenue, it BS.

HI, Camaniac: so all Mich. business troubles are due to the Canadian born governor, not Big Labor/Big Business Unions...?!!!
Edit..sorrry, can't help myself...
I'm a micro business owner.

Oh, this could get good...Politics and diving... Rock'em sock'em

I just Googled MEA and got Middle East Airlines ??? Can't be right.

Seriously, Straitsdivergeo, what are the proposed boundaries? Huron, Michigan, Superior?
Each entire lake (US side, Michigan State)? Who enforces, who gains?
Sorry, rhetorical question.

In this context MEA = Michigan Education Association.

caymaniac, I am a union worker and I blame management. After all, I work for them not the union. Do you have any idea how much the insurance costs add up into the labor package, My company can go to China and buy a total labor package for less than what insurance costs here. Insurance is now the #1 cost, it use to be the steel. 20 years ago I worked in marinas and the Doctors had the best boats, Now the doctors boats are garbage scows compared to the yachts the insurance guys own.
