I checked in to fly standby on an earlier flight the other day, went thru TSA security with my computer, etc back pack - no problem, except I didn't make the flight.

When I returned thru TSA security to standby for the next flight, this time they wanted to inspect the contents of my backpack - ok fine. He took out my waterproof cigarette case...

Then mentioned that he was looking for a pocket knife seen on X-ray :11: and thought it was inside the plastic case, so he looked...

Nope, nothing but smokes? So he reran my backpack, then sent me on my way...

Only the next day did I happen to notice the case, open, at a different angle...

And remembered the times in Utila last month that I put a few items in my case. Guess the weapon got stuck there and rode thru a few Security check-points since. I'll call the FBI next week to turn myself in and start plea negotiations.

Interesting how they didn't find the knife when the case was opened. It just goes to show how items can get by even with the tightened security.

So they saw the knife on the monitor, couldn't find it, and then said oh well and sent you on your way.

What is it that they're supposed to be doing?

Yep, really. Is that a reasonable example of "We tried," or a dumb of example of "We're a stupid inconvenience"...??

What is it that they're supposed to be doing?
That's subject to various opinions. I know they cost me an extra $10 fee on every plane ticket and inconvenience me in various ways. I cannot tell that they are any better than the old system, which should not have allowed box cutters thru. :dork:

DandyDon- Hmm I think that is known as "Spontaneous Utterence" also known as a unsolicted confession.

Complete with pictures even!
