I find the ad tacky. It makes me less likely to buy from Jetsam,no matter how much Netdoc supports his advertisers.

Guess there will soon be a gushing report of the Sport Kiss in Rodales telling us how we all need to get a rebreather for that 30 foot dive in Bonaire if we want to hang with the cool kids..............

MissyP:
...I'm not sure the recreational world (well, the newer divers) is ready to dive rebreathers. They're a bit more complicated than the standard reg, bc & tank combo....... so I'm not very keen on seeing ads for any rb on a recreational site.....

I didn't see where the ad stated "hey anyone can dive a rebreather!"

Why does consideration of closed circuit units not belong on recreational sites?

Ayisha:
Aww, that's nice, thanks! :) I'm not nearly as accomplished a diver as Chickdiver or Catherine, though...

Your whole post was very well put, NetDoc. It's unfortunate that some people still think that in this day and age, isn't it?

I'm sure I'm not the only woman who gets a look of surprise and lots of questions when people find out/see that I'm a diver, particularly in cold water. Granted, I'm petite, but still... It's not only men who tend to be surprised - other women wonder how we do it... And that's just recreational diving! I can only imagine the surprise that female tech divers must get from onlookers...

A good female friend of mine is a pilot for a major airline and I see the utter shock when people find out what she does. If she just says that she works for the airline, people usually automatically assume she's a stewardess. She happens to be a pretty, fairly young woman. People then usually assume she flies small planes, and when she informs them that she flies large jets, I can see the eyes go even wider and the jaw drop... all presumably because she is a woman in a perceivably man's world. So sad, but the perception is still there... :shakehead
i have no issues with a female being in the kiss ad - my problem is the old aged attitude of sex sells and how we just dont seem to be about to crawl out of the cave on that one

i look forward to yourself or your pilot friend receiving postive exposure in your chosen fields - i just hope you dont have to slip into a thong bikini and slap on the baby oil to get your point across

New divers are not (usually) the most safe divers out there and obviously they lack basic dive experience (such as buoyancy)...... Add a rebreather's complexities into that and the results might not be so pretty.
It's my opinion~ nothing more, nothing less. Don't sound so shocked...

Whoa! That lady does look hot. :11:

Whoa! That lady does look hot. :11:

lol

you clown. are you old enough to be saying that?

so....would it be okay if they used a "not-so-hot" dive professional in the advertisement?

Am I in trouble...?

there are reasons why they have half-naked women hugging a ducati motorcycle in their official website.

sigmund freud has a point.

and to quote Optimus Prime, the humans have a long way to go before they reach maturity.

This magazine has been described to me as Scuba Porn...

It's not very hard to see why.

The smilie looked more shocked than I intended.

 would have been a better choice.

I understand your safety concerns; sorry that my post was irritating.
