Huawei has unveiled the Huawei Watch Ultimate—a premium watch with a new liquid metal casing, dive computer functionalities, and a reputed 14-day battery life—ahead of its official release date on 3 April 2023.

It certainly looks like it's going to earn its place in our best smartwatch list, where its main rival the Apple Watch Ultra currently holds top spot. The watch’s design mimics a real high-performance dive watch, with a big 1.5-inch AMOLED sapphire glass display capable of emitting up to 1,000 nits of brightness. This is ideal to be seen at night (unless you’re using the watch’s new Dark Night Mode, which allows you to see key workout and navigation information while protecting your eyes), or deep underwater.

It just so happens that it’s the watch’s underwater features that Huawei is championing hardest. The watch is reportedly capable of surviving depths of over 100 meters for up to 24 hours, and has passed specific diving equipment tests such as EN13319—a certification awarded to specialist depth gauges—and has been awarded an ISO 22810 water resistance standard, bringing it in line with the Apple Watch Ultra’s diving credentials. Diving Mode offers four different options to choose from: recreational scuba dive, technical scuba dive, free-dive and gauge.

Are Huawei allowed to import kit into the US?

The spying device on your wrist made from a hundred other patents.

Huawei abandoned the US market in 2019. But you can buy grey market devices on ebay and Amazon.

Huawei seem to buy their way into markets by selling their stuff way under any competition. Commercially the bean-counters like the price, but the engineers don’t trust them. They’ve been hounded out of Dodge for a host of reasons, especially in telecommunications.

Their tat on people's wrists tracking them and phoning home…. No thanks.

At least Apple put the product and marketing effort in and are somewhat interested in privacy.

Looking around on line, it looks like it will have Tech Diving modes, and perform as a dive computer down to 100m. Maybe, if we are lucky, it will push Apple to either unlock it's dive mode to 100m if it isn't hardware limited to 40m, or release a new watch to compete. More likely, Apple will ignore it.

While I am unlikely to purchase the Huawei, I did read some articles. Looks like it will start around $880. However, I didn't see anything about algorithms and other details on the diving side.

Huaway has been accused of having a role in corporate espionage in bringing down a giant Canuck telecom, Nortel. And with concerns of their 5G security I’ll never buy a Huaway product.

I fight against Huawei and it's sisters, ZTE, everyday. They are Cancer.

The US and the Western European countries have been sleeping for decades ignoring this matter.
