Wow - I never thought about Jets "dieing". Hubby has had his since 1970 and I can't tell them from mine (which I bought in 1999).

kidspot:
Slowly over the last 50 dives or so my Jet fins have been "splitting" and today I noticed they had split completely through one of the "ribs" ... I was hoping they were going to last 20+ years instead of 2 :(

Is this a common problem? Any way to fix or prevent it?

If I understand a fin manufacturer from Northern Cali and a retailer from Texas correctly, the fact that your fin split is a good thing. You should be experiencing an improvement in your SAC rate, ability to swim fast and cause less silting. Sadly, since your other fin has not yet split....

I'd contact ScubaPro. Lifetime warranty on those suckers. That's one reason they sell so well on eBay.

Lets see if one of the dedicated SP dealers indicates that they will take care of it. I threw most of my broken fins away.

They do have a lifetime warranty, when bought from an authorized dealer. That started when they put the lightning bolt symbol on them, I think.

Well than I should be able to sell the broken ones for top dollar. Any offers? I'm absolutely sure the dealer will smile and give you brand new fins !

This is one piece of gear I bought from a local SP dealer ... but the receipt is long gone :( I bought them 3 years ago for snorkeling and have been diving them frequently for the past 2 years. I'd post a pic for everyone, but I've been leaving them on the boat (25 miles away) for the past few days since I've been diving Molokini every morning (rough life I know - ;) )

I marked in yellow where they are splitting - the outside "rib" has now split completely through the rib ...
