$295 for the Abyss is a great price (retail is ~$495). I would still get the ATX-50, however... (remember, lifetime warranty on service kits!!!)
Not that i was considering buying one, just thought i would pop the price on here, i think it is comparable with many other online (no manufacturer warranty) stores. Just from what i recall i might have heard, you can correct me if i am wrong - Mares has a lifetime warranty, but only supplies two years worth of service kits/parts? Like i said, i may be wrong on that count. Does Apeks however provides annual service kit parts?

When I refer to lifetime warranty, I am referring to service kits (Apeks regs). Mares does NOT have a lifetime warranty for service kits, just two years, as you indicated.

Hi,
A very heated debate, but I notice that the majority of your fine selves are in the US. Living and diving in europe the service and supply of Mares equiptment is a little better. When I was working in a dive shop we were regularly having Mares regs of all ages serviced by the technitian, And one particularlaly old set, required only a 50 cent part (euros). The situation is a lot better over here, and between all of the regulators discussed they all have good and bad points, but all perform pretty much the same. If and when Mares becomes a more esablished brabd in the US then I am sure opinions will change, It is also nice to see that not everything is cheaper over there!

Mares simply don't have the reputation in Europe that they seem to have in the US, servicing is not a problem, I,ve got a Proton XL - it,s the ducks nuts -
Apex are very good, so are a lot of others. What matters to me is simple,

1. Is it easy to breath
2. Is it comfortable
3. Reputable Brand
4. Easy Servicing
5. Is it suitable for the conditions I dive in

IMHO yes to all

Please note, despite the name up there on the left, I am not an employee of Mares, I do own mares regs, BC amd wetsuit, sombody refered to this at work and the name stuck!!!! so i thought i'd use it on the board, wish i had'nt now :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Mr Mares,

You are not the only one. I know how you feel. I got my handle when I purchased a lot of Mares equipment in the Caribbean. It has worked great for me. Much drier than the Apeks reg that I had (an gave away). Nothing wrong with Mares equipment.

Dive Smart; Dive Safe
Enjoy the ride
