Wow, all the OP wanted to know is if titanium holds up to long term hard use! It does. Everyone on my boat today was diving an Atomic, either B-1 or titanium. We got into a discussion and someone checked mine, it is serial number 0019, my wifes is 0029. I guess Ive been diving a titanium regulator as long as anyone and Im pretty sure, more than anyone.
Second question about vermin on the Atlantic side, yep, weve got them too. I cant use an Atomic mask, the silicon skirt is too attractive to something, two weeks and the mask is eaten away to nothing useful. Since Atomics mask design is all skirt, once the skirt goes the mask is trash. I use a different brand of mask, I get a year per mask, and if I feel like taking the trouble to work on it, I can replace the skirt.
Third question, the titanium knife does not really hold a good cutting edge. Thats okay with me, I dont use the knife for cutting. If or when I have a need for a cutting tool, I use shears such as Sea Snips .
As to the dealer agreement Scuba Pro requires (as of the last time I talked to them) $40,000 initial order, cash only, $10,000 yearly minimum, and Scuba Pro decides what to send to make up the minimum, what the store needs is extra on top of the order. Fixed price, only one discount sale allowed each year, written permission must be granted by Scuba Pro outlining terms of the sale, etc. The whole dealer agreement was the size of a book.
There used to be 60,000 divers visiting my island a year. There was no Scuba Pro dealer on the island. A good percentage of the divers have Scuba Pro equipment and lots of it didnt work. I wanted to be able to fix, adjust, tweak or otherwise keep Scuba Pro customers happy using their own equipment, so I went to Scuba Pro to take their regulator seminar and get some service kits. You know what they told me? $40,000 cash, $10,000 per year and then they would allow me to buy $30 worth of seats and o-rings.
