Knowing what you know now, if you could go back in time and talk to yourself during the first month of your diving career, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

. . . slow down !!! Otherwise you may miss something you may never have a chance of seeing ever again.

Two things
You're in for a lot of BS. Diving will be your escape, get ready!
Get that camera now. Memories can be shared through the eyes of a lense.

Some 33 years ago I sat on a bar stool next to the man who eventually became my OW instructor. We'd known each other since grade school. He explained to me how much fun scuba diving was and that since I liked fishing so much, it would be interesting for me. I was 18, he 19. He now has over 10,000 dives, a shop and a dive travel business, and I, 300+ dives (finger to the temple signifying shooting myself). The good part is that I am a diver now and I'm seeing the world with an old friend and many new ones.

We of course can't go back in time, but I wonder if you could, what bit of advice, encouragement, or warning would you share with yourself?

I am not paid to dive, so I can hardly call it a career. What advice would I give? Try it OW before buy and you'll avoid collecting boxes of dive gear that are unused due to finding something better.

Buy a full suit instead of the shorty..Would have kept me out on the water during the winter and out of the Ft. Lauderdale bars. Would have saved a ton of money and some trouble.

Buy Microsoft...

In 1962? Patent everything you think might be related to the water and diving. :D

Someday, when you first hear the Microsoft name, buy all the stock you can.

Edit: (Neal had it right and I missed it)
