Thought expt: If you were joining a dive trip that is primarily an open circuit liveaboard or liveashore deal with ~24 non-deco (or mini-deco; runtimes ~60min) dives in a week, but you prefer to CCR--which rebreather (real, or hypothetical) would you bring?
Sidewinder or Gemini with AL40 or LP50 sidemount.

Perhaps controversial 😈: for clear-water NDL from a boat with a buddy, a 2x3L back-mount unit, long hose off the onboard Dil for BO/donation. Like any OC rec diver, I am reliant on buddy if the Dil/BO reg fails. Some other failures are self-reliant. Donation to the OC buddy is not an issue.

Min gas from 70 ft=21 m with a safety stop is 2400 psi=165 bar @ 1.4 cuft/min=40 L/min RMV. Given the ~60 min runtimes, depths are likely much shallower.

Is there an official canister cycling protocol for the twin scrubbers that is beneficial for repetitive diving? Will there be any temp sticks like on the rEvo?
I am certified on rEvo, though I never used it after training so I maybe not be remembering correctly. However, my buddies diving Gemini follows same principle of throwing exhale, replacing exhale with inhale and refreshing inhale scrubbers.

Kiss doesn’t have scrubber canister inside an “outer” canister so I believe it is not an option swapping inhale/exhale sides. Hence exhale side sorb is mostly soaked, not sure if there is any considerations involved. Technically one should be able to swap canisters entirely, but I never seen one doing it.

At the moment I am putting together fathom/tecme sidewinder and will get to figure out how to work this around March 2025. Kiss divers may be able to help better.

I'm curious if the sidewinder2 will allow cannister rotation. Especially since it seems to offer a backmount conversion for those hypothetical recreational CCR dives.

I have always rotated my inhale and exhale Kiss Spirit and Sidewinder cansiters and it works perfectly.
