I;ve been lurking here for a while and it;s kinda scary to post in this forum. But I believe I have a legitimate question. Hopefully you guys will be gentle with a DIR curious newbie ;-).

I am trained up to rescue on the rec hose/octo config & soon will be diving for 2.5 months with various rec partners in fringe SE Asia locations. I;m upgrading some gear to DIR now, love your DIR hose configuration and have ordered a dark plate for my
R295 SP Octo.

But before I convert the hoses & octo config, I;m wondering if you think is safer to continue through this trip with the rec hose/octo configuration that is familiar to me and is consistent with my various dive partners training (I probably will be doing mellow diving with partners where English is not the first language). Or is it safer to switch now to the DIR hose configuration?

IÃÎ not DIR trained yet, but fully enamored, busy absorbing and slowly heading towards GUE-F ;-).

Thank you.

Problem. This hose you breathe good. This hose I breathe. Nothing should cause a problem.

If you're free during the week, I'll be more than happy to dive with you.

Don is fantastic!
Gear/hoses reconfigured
S-drills today

Thanks again Don, Lynne & DIR Forum!!!!

Glad you got a dive in with Don! We say over and over again that the best way to learn this stuff -- or evaluate it -- is to go out diving with a DIR diver. You did. Good for you.

Less than two months ago I just asked a simple question about hose configuration & suddenly within a few weeks my rec gear was swapped out to fantastic new DIR gear & I was doing S drills within a new DIR mentor! You all are very helpful!

This last weekend -I was lucky to meet up with some of your Philippine GUE gang on my extended SE Asia dive trip ;-). It was an exciting weekend to say the least! They were very welcoming & took me on some of the most exciting dives of my entire trip & were so generous with diving tips!

In a blur of many dive shops, guides and partners over the past month – honestly I have never seen anybody as graceful, relaxed & safe underwater as DIR divers both here and in the states. Its so impressive – think I’m getting spoiled ;-).

I love this new gear! And can’t wait to get back to the states and start some formal DIR training so I can learn more than just little tips here and there ;-)!

Thanks again DIR Forum for being kind to a DIR curious newbie ;-)!

Have a great summer!

:rofl3: Ninja - yes! But not at all stealth while diving rec in SE Asia!! I'm really sticking out admist a mob of colorful clanking scuba "fashion" in various states of decay :shakehead:

Last weekend was a treat - a boat filled with bp/w & bolt clips & no weird looks :D! Think I'll stick around for another weekend of tips & fun with these awesome Philippino GUE divers :D!

Are those X Shorts, perchance?Tom

Yup & I'm thinkin' they're lookin pretty sexy !

Went diving this weekend, and packed up my wife's undergarment by accident. Luckily I saw my own sitting out before I left, and packed the right one. Maybe all those women who buy pink gear do it so their hubbies keep their mitts off?

Yeah, and you just pissed off half the women on this board by posting a picture of a woman who still looks skinny in a wetsuit.

How'd you like the X Shorts?

:rofl3:Good point - I've seem many guys - especially in tech shops - eyeing my gear with envy - don't think they would do the same if the jet fins were pink .

I like having the pockets & not complaining about the extra buoyancy in the hips :D. Oh I've heard gal hips help the shorts stay up - so no problem with that even though I'm skinny .

My complaint is that the pockets can be floppy - stiffer material would be much better & after just 43 dives (this month)- I already need to replace the pocket velcro/bungee drawstring.

Humm, tough decisions - Coron wrecks or Sumatra! :D
