hi folks sorry to deviate a bit, i saw the movie yesterday with my dive buddy and i got a quick ques; what mask is the lead guy Paul whats-his-name using? Its a clear mask and i believe i saw "Oceanic" on its frame (i cld be wrong).. im guessing Alba and and the other girl were wearing Oceanic mini shadows? Just keen to find out the guy's mask model.. i searched the Oceanic website but cldnt find anything closely resembling what he wore.. anybody know? Thanks much..

p.s. enjoyed the movie btw.. cant expect an oscar plot but it was a visual feast in many ways and fun entertainment for a saturday nite..

Went to see it last night and it was ho hum...

Way too fast paced and it jumped all ofver the place. It was like a dive flick that didn't want to be a dive flick to me. The underwater scenes were way too hacked up like an MTV video, totaly even based, not time to build the moment.

They made us look like a bunch of idiots, forever running out of air, botched ill prepared solo wreck penetration. Hardly anyone came out of it as an honest Joe in the end. Just the sort of group I want to put my life on the line with. Good did triumph over evil, I think.

Gear? You folks sure you know your stuff beter that I do (that may not be saying much) I did notice regulators from Zeagle and what looked like a Posiedon.

The free diving scenes... Quite a combination of duration and exertion. On the one towards the end you could suppose that the first on screen air share he got from his buddy on scuba was not the first air share he got.

All in all it was good to see the sport get some screen time but the flick didn't do anything to move me, I have no interest in owning it. My wife ended up working at the last minute so she couldn't come. I said we can do another time but I'm in no hurry. I didn't find it to be inspiring, maybe it will register as more certifications and gear sales. As mentioned there may be a glut of low milleage gear showing up once the attracted learn what most real diving is actually like.

I missed the The Cave, the shot run came and went before I could get there. Anyone know when it's out on DVD?

Pete

It's an OCEANIC Contour....I have the same mask, only my frame is Blue rather than clear.

I saw it on friday, i didnt think it was too bad, even though the diving was very unrealistic. but i think more people went to see jessica alba vs. a good dive movie

not to give away the movie but these guys had too many out of air experiences for me, and besides Jessica's boyfriend was a dive master, on a cattle boat, he should have known better. But that was some of the best underwater photography and abovewater photography iv'e ever seen im talking suits here people.

If you want a technically accurate film then watch a scuba training video.

I thought the movie was fun and Jessica is hot. The scenes had plenty of hollywood mixed in but were still fun for divers. My non-diver friends thought it was fun too. Definitely no Oscars coming but good entertainment value. I would say it is a plus for the industry and will make some people get certified.

Holy mackerel, Jessica... I thought it WAS a scuba training video.

Must agree... we can't expect too much realism from Hollywood since it does require a little research rather than a lot of hype and marketing.

Louie:
Anybody seen the TV ads and trailers for this film?

I got one of these standard bulk PADI emails the other day where they mentioned they were jumping on the back of this movie to promote OW courses. So I figured this is another one of those u/w documentaries.

Then last night, I saw a TV advert (the most exciting clips from the film rolled into twenty seconds) and it's an adventure/action/fiction starring some famous starlets - story revolves around a wreck hunt with danger, suspense.... usual Hollywood formula...

So I thought hmmmmmmmm. This is a bit like using "Jaws" to promote sport fishing.

If anyone's seen the film, please let us know how bad/good it is.

Now, I'm going to go look for the smallest white bikini I can find for my next big wreck dive.
Very well put together for such a movie. I had the honor of being at Stuart Cove's and speaking with some of the stunt doubles. Great people highly rec the visit.

Awsome

Louie,

Nice ocean, pretty girl even with a bikini, endless visibility, and wreck and boat diving.

What are you going to do next after seeing the movie?

I think

"Get certified and take a scuba trip." Don't you agree with that?

PADI is a business agency, not NGO......

Right to the point!!!!!!

Product placement in movie is commom these days. Everyone want a piece of it whenever possible. Omega, Sony Erricson, and BMW (now it's Astron Martin and Jaguar) in James Bonds , Converse All Star in I-Robot,...................the list goes on and on.

PADI is simply riding along.................... This is certainly a better alternative for PADI than "OpenWater". :11:
