bro the movie's opening here next week or so... so unless you plan to spend the next few 24/7s in the gym... well hahahahaha

on the other hand, we can get tshirts made saying "SCUBA instructor" and stand outside the movie theatres (Greenbelt3, not Ever Gotesco) and offer "services" hehehehehe...

DiveGolfSki:
That second picture of Bisset diving dangerously (sans BC) generated a lot of interest in scuba when it was released in the 70's.

Diving dangerously (sans BC)? Then I dove dangerously from 1961 to 1989. We didn't use BC's. The first time I had to use one was when I dove with a Cousteau team off Santa Cruz Island. They required it. Mine autoinflated every time I tried to submerge and I told their DM that was happening. She said it couldn't be. I asked her to watch me and she acknowledged that it was.

Then she asked me what we should do. I said to disconnect the inflator hose and I'd be fine. Her response was "You can do that?" The rest of the dive (sans BC) went off without a hitch.

This is nbot to say that a lot of the diving we did back then wasn't more dangerous than today. However much of the equipment just wasn't "invented" or at least in common use.

Saw it on Saturday in San Antonio with my son. Some nice scenery but to me the plot was too contrived. The diving sequences were not that great and I won't spoil it for all of you who have not seen it but the ooa scenes (2 of them) were a load of crap. Although if jessica buddy breathed with me the way she did in the film I wouldn't care if I drowned. And you could tell that the water was not too warm! If you don't know what I'm talking about you lead a sheltered life. But I was not impressed. It was on a line with the cave. Some of the stuff was pure Hollywood designed to get the young testosterone charged males into spending some bucks. To hell with being technically correct is the attitude in this one also. Nobody checks their guages until they're ooa. And the stuff they do when they are is way out there. This is no "The Deep". the plot is the same they couldn't even be original. But the way it develops is not even in the same league. It's another rip-off and not even well done. I'll have to watch come of my old Sea Hunt videos to get back to some better plots and storylines. I will say though that she does look good in that bikini from above and behind. But not as good as Bisset!

Actually the biggest shocker is.... jessica alba is ow certified :11: forgot where i read it but they have an interview with her about it... will try to remember where i read it and let ya know... if i remeber correctly she was cert when she was like 16 :11:

According to the hollywood buzz, she is acutally a pretty accomplished diver.

I saw the movie. It was pretty good, although the gear choices made little sense; but, you know, BP/Ws look hotter than BCDs.

The movie is, for the most part, a remake of The Deep.

Oddly, for all the hype, on Friday night, the theatre was nearly empty. As I was leaving I said aloud, "I wonder how many people here are certified." Several of the handful of folks there nodded, smiling.

It's worth seeing, if for no other reason, than the diving locations look so great.

This is a great movie. This is what diving is all about. Jessica Alba is a fine actress (even though she is a little old .

As far as the gear choices went, Halcyon worked with the production staff on and off for a year to help outfit the actors. A significant number of the underwater film and safety crew also used Halcyon gear for their work. As one might expect, I was thrilled to see that they decided to go with the Eclipse for both Alba's and Walker's characters. I know that they wanted the most streamlined look possible underwater-- when you are banking on your two stars to bring in their audiences, they want to make sure that you don't wrap 'em up in a jacket BC. Considering the work that went into tricking out a rig for Jessica, I was somewhat surprised that you didn't get more shots of her in scuba gear. I was really expecting a "Deep" shot...

I was baffled by the faked-up underwater lighting. I know that they had a range of canister lights on set; you'll see the "bro" lawyer using a Helios 9 when they freedive to the plane for the first time. But those goofy light tubes that they used for the rest of the film made no sense at all.

I thought this movie was really good compared to "Open Water" which really sucked.

I thought the scene at the beginnig where the lead guy is teaching the OW tourist class was halarious where the great big fat guy wearing a pink mask was stuck upside down, hehehe ;-p

I don't know much about free diving, but I found those scenes to be a bit unrealistic in that they held there breath for an urealistic amount of time I would think. But then again, I havn't met many free divers.

Also, when they were usuing tanks, some of their assents were prety fast!!

Anyway I won't spoil anymore fro those who havn't seen it yet. Overall, I really enjoyed it and it made me wish I was diving there.

Not a great theatrical performance, but jessica is hot in small bikini! Dive shots are hoky by believable except for shark attach on the pickup girl. Worth seeing for us dive junkies!
