try this:
Honey, i invested in some steel today, I am really looking out for OUR future! Eventually we will see a fantastic return on my brilliant investment! Love you sweetie!
By the way, keep the tank out of sight if possible.

I would tell her that it's for your children... And in the case you don't have any, even better... Just tell her that you're thinking ahead and investing in the future... LoL

edit: just read the one above my post and it sounds like I totally ripped it... :11:

My best cover for many of my purchases is a pure lack of believability...

In her wildest dreams, my wife could never imagine that a light (canister style) could cost upwards of 1000 bucks. She would look at something like that and probably think 200 bucks...

Also, she probably thinks that if there were such a thing as lights that cost 1000 dollars or more, surely her husband would be smart enough to refrain from such an obvious ruse to separate a poor fool from his money...

And alas, she would be mistaken...

You guys who suggest telling her and letting her buy something of equal value.... ARE YOU NUTS? That uses up more money you coulda had for scuba gear! What are you thinking???

My wife is a total expert on hiding money and purchases so she can buy more clothes. I'll go ask her how she does it.......

tick, tock, tick, tock.

OK, well, she's not giving up her secrets. Sorry. But I do know she has a credit card I'm not supposed to know about and uses it for "discretionary expenses." I, on the other hand, skim a little extra expense out of my business's petty cash and buy scuba gear. (I love the idea of writing off a scuba tank as a "compressed air tank for blowing out equipment." Thanks!)

Just divorce them...Its easier. Then you also get the satisfaction that when they see all the new gear they mumble under their breath "I should of asked for more money"

Oh these ideas are great!!! I haven't laughed this hard through a thread in a long time. If this gets any funnier then the Mods will move it to the Humor section.

Thanks for all your help. Keep them coming though. There is still more gear to buy. Wait until I come walking through the door with a Gavin Scooter!!!

Thats what I showed the XBox when she did her muttering.

I dont know why but my wife never asks about my purchases. :07: Of course they all come out of my business account. She only gets pissed if I stay in Monterey more than two nights straight.

I write all my scuba expenses off as charitable volunteer expenses since I am a dedicated REEF surveyor. This includes equipment mileage boat fees lodging etc.

Jag has a point though about most people having no clue about the price of the stuff.

BTW if you never want to see my face again ask me how a piece of gear cost me in front of my wife! :11:

It is much easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to get permission. ;)

My wife handles all of the budget. I get $100 a week to spend. Anything I don't use I get to keep and save up for those special purchases.

Andrew
This is just out and out wrong, i think we should start a campaign to free Andrew from being under a giant thumb!! Demand at least $200 per week! ;)

How do you know she isnt spending twice that on clothes etc and fliting away potential dive gear funds???

Simple... I don't have one!

And if I did, she'd agree 100% with the purchase... as long as I bought two! Besides, these are work-related expenses and tax deductible.
