Hi all,

I´ve heard that the Halcyon Eclipse should be the Wing to choose for a Monosetup.
But here in Europe it´s hard to come by and info is really rare.

So I´d like to know, what experiences you´ve made or what informations you could provide about Halcyon in general and especially on the Eclipse Setup (40 lbs)
Or should I more aim at the Pioneer?

I´d also thought about a Seaquest Balance for Airtravel, cause I guess it´s a bit difficult to travel with the Halcyon BP/w setup.

So is the SQ Balance the right choice? Or is there yet a better alternative?
Balance is quite cheap here at the moment.

Btw: price in Euros would be 689.- for the Eclipse, Steelplate, Mountingstraps etc.
SQ Balance nearly half of it.

thanx in advance,

toby

You guessed wrong. A BP/wing is easier to travel with, and if you have an Alum BP its even easier.

Actually, the Balance will pack as compactly as the backplate/wing and will also be 6 lbs lighter. The difference will be 4lbs less with the AL plate.

That said, the backplate/wing would be pretty easy to travel with, enough that it probably won't be worth buying another BC just for travel.

If you plan on travelling with the backplate, the Pioneer will be the better choice, as with the current version you don't need the single tank adapter to dive with it. The Eclipse is tougher.
I dive with the Pioneer when I dive single tank (I bought it before the Eclipse came out) and I am very happy with it.

Have you considered DIR-ZONE wings? I think they can be found in Europe.

I have not actually seen the actual wings but have read some good reviews.

I currently use an Eclipse 30—it’s seems to be much more rugged than the Pioneer 27 I tried earlier this year.

you happier with the eclipse over the pioneer?

Hi! I have the Halcyon Eclipse, it's a great wing, well thought-out and beatifully executed. The inflator is great. It's solid steel, and I really like steel equipment :-) Just be careful somebody doesn't sell you a wing with the old inflator, there's a recall on that one. Shouldn't happen, though.

Where in Europe do you live? When I was shopping for my wing I could have bought the Eclipse from four different shops, I chose the one with the best customer service. Google it; if you still need information afterwards, I could supply you with some 5 or so shops in Europe that I know sell them.

And yes, the Eclipse is rather expensive. You can get a DIR-ZONE wing including harness, backplate and a DIR-knife for 500 euros. I like the Halcyon wing better for reasons even I can not explain, but then I am a total gear-geek.

Also, have you dived a wing before? For some people, diving with anything more complicated than a wing isn't an option after they have tried it, you should consider that before you buy something.

Well, I’ve only used the Pioneer once, so I can’t really say. I have heard from several people that the Pioneer is rather easy to puncture and my instructor’s Pioneer 27 (the one I used) was punctured a few years back. It was just sitting on a boat when the puncture happened (not sure how), not during a dive.

The casing is plastic—the internal components and buttons are 316 stainless steel.

Here’s a link about the inflator recall and how you can tell the difference between the pre and post-recall inflators.

so confused! i feel like the pioneer is so right for me with the ss bp i dont need any addtl weight. wondering if i get the eclipse, having the ss sta pose problems for me or should i opt for the eclipse with aluminum backplate and ss sta? so many combinations pretty confusising for a new diver!
