A very well respected cave instructor once told me " this cert I'm giving you doesn't make you a good diver , It gives you the chance to become one"

and just like anything else ,in life, it's up to you to get what you want from a course. I've always tried to get the very best instructors because I'd like to know what they know without making the same mistakes they've made along the way. This is why I have no problem diving with GUE trained divers , or doing technical solo dives. I've taken the time to learn all the agencies techniques.

Which parts am I wrong on? The O2? The class is taught with a max of 50% for deco, but they certify you for the 100%?

My card states deco of up to 100%, and my class delved into the advantages and disadvantages of 50% vs 100% depending on the situation/profile.

If you're reading something regarding changes since I took it two years ago, then so be it, but those aren't the guidelines I learned under nor dive by.

So I can potentially get a card authorizing me to deco on 100% without ever actually diving with anything higher than 50?

You are welcome to try to do whatever your little heart desires Jonathan.:D
That's a non-answer.

Tech 1 appears to only use 50% in class. Are you saying that it certifies you for 100%?

What part of post 92 do you not get?
The part where you didn't state what your class dived and did not dive in class.

I have no idea when you got certified, what the standards were when you did, or what you did in class.

Quit playing games. Does Tech 1 certify a diver to 100% even though they don't dive more than 50 in class?

If you got the drive, energy, desire; and the money to do it the best, then go GUE! It is a far superior course.
Guys, this is my opinion,ok; not a troll!

I think that if you really are interested in a Tech 1 class, I would suggest that you approach your prospective instructor (?Sherwood... ?McKay) and pose those questions...

It doesn't look like my class experience or the information conveyance thereof is going to be real useful for your understanding of the nature of learning deco gas usage. It will certainly be more constructive that way, anyhow.

best regards,

Hey Jonny
Strangely enough, I was just thinking recently how dissappointing my Tech 1 card is, as to what it reads. I have not dove overseas with it yet, and am curious at to how it will be interpreted.

I shipped the card/logbook out with my luggage yesterday, so I don't have it in front of me. However, it reads something like..."certified for use of heliox and nitrox." I may be wrong, but I don't remember it saying anyhting about a deco gas percentage. Definitely does not say 100% O2. I also don't know if it specifically said anything about being deco certified...

I remember being a bit let down when I read it...
