That system has to be a bitch to clean. When he has to go at the sand with the shovel, how long does it take to clear? It is high flow so I am guessing relatively quickly?

After looking at the pictures and video that has been posted on this cave system, why would anyone want to go back into it after the first time? It looks to me like a contruction site.... There must better better looking cave systems to dive in around in, isn''t there? I was hoping to head down that way next year after I finish my full cave this winter in Playa.

Almost all of them are better looking than Vortex.

I've dived it a couple times, because I was there... and there was a cave onsite.

The blue PVC pipe is used to dredge the sand, I'm not sure how much shoveling is actually done :P

stupid cave. If I die in a cave that ugly i expect you all to make fun of me

Thanks. I knew about the pipe but had heard several people mentioning Eduardo cleaning the cave and saw a shovel there and figured when it got too bad he'd have to do that. My bad.

If it wasn't for the pipe, it would actually be a very pretty cave.

I like the fissure crack(2nd 'restriction'), blue room, the room before the 2nd sandslide; but I still think just about any cave is nicer :) especially with all the junk in there. Downstream of the grate is just nasty.

No doubt

Steve... here is Eduardo using the sand dredge suction to clean up in the basin. I'm sure that inside the cave is done in a similar way. (maybe someone else can comment on that).

the most interesting thing for me about Vortex is the gate. You have to get the key at the office to be able to enter the full cave section. We always took the lock with us, but I always felt relieved to see the gate open when coming back.

The most interesting part in Eduardo´s opinion starts at Champagne Bottleneck, which is a major sidemount restriction. Behind this area you soon reach nomount land, the place where Eduardo is digging his way in to the unknown.

probably not the best cave, but each cave dive is a good dive, isn´t it. (at least if you manage to get back to the surface alive!)
