Last time I was down there Mayan Blue looked like a cesspool with a green scum everywhere. Have they actually cleaned up some of the excess nutrient loads?

Calm down. That happens every time it rains for a few weeks. Takes about a week to clear when the rain stops.

Shrugs that didn't happen historically. Another shifting baseline

Which suggests that, similar to where I am now in the UK, most of the excess nutrients in rainwater runoff is from nitrate based agricultural fertilisers.

Would it be fair to say that you haven't seen it historically?

Which is different than it didn't happen.

Please don't get me wrong. I've given entire presentations on the challenges that this area faces. That's just not really one of them.

Nice write up. At first I was thinking wtf, you used to get to go do a bunch of dives with Patric and you'd get a card afterwards. But then I got to the part where the caves he used are no longer accessible.
That really sucks and I hate that so many places in MX are getting closed to divers.
Years ago when I was very into sm I was planning to take the course with Patric. As I've gotten older, squeezing through sm restrictions that require bottle off sounded much less appealing. I'm fine in small cave and with major restrictions, but I've finally drawn the line in the sand against the crazy tight stuff

I've been trying to remember the caves we used when I took the course a number of years ago with Nando from Protec. There were definitely some bedding planes involved. We didn't mess around with the regulators like you did although I do remember sipping air directly from the tank valve.

There are two caves that were often used:
#1 most popular is gran cenote downstream line - this one is closed after two guys got too busy filming videos and died
#2 I believe is Palomita that got faqed by tren maya
I believe they also used that cenote behind grand on the same property. It was way in the back and nobody was ever there because it’s full real deal sm. I believe it’s snake cenote but I could be wrong.
I miss grand cenote. It’s not the same entering from kalimba
