Great picture by the way! What is the large pier between the two cruise ship piers?
I think you are talking about the car ferry pier if you are taking about the straight pier perpendicular to the coast about half way between the four ships at the bottom of the photo and the two ships up at Punta Langosta at the top. You can see a road in the jungle that almost runs straight onto that pier.

didn’t actually look at the back of the plane
I've learned to select an aisle seat towards the rear, maybe third from the rear to avoid the restroom line. With deplaning from both ends, I get out quickly and get in the Immigration line sooner. The people look at me funny when I grab my carry-on and face the back until they open that door.

In all the 35+ times I have been to Cozumel not once has there been a rear exit option.

Do you usually set around the exit rows or further forward? I'm guessing you just didn't notice. I think that they always board from the front but deplane from both ends.

They sometimes deplane from both ends, not always. I do enjoy when folks jam their luggage in a forward overhead bin on their way to the back, and then they deplane from both ends and they have to wait.

You'd guess wrong, I believe. Many times I have been in a seat near the back of the plane and waited quite a while to get off; if they had opened a door at the rear I'm pretty sure I would have noticed.

Twice out of my last 14 flights or so they've deplaned from both front & rear.
Ok, it worked for me the last two trips. I don't remember noticing before then. Maybe they only use rear doors when the plane is full. I'm sure that they want to empty the plane quickly so they can prepare it for departure.
