How much should you you bring in case the evil Voldemort not only incapacitates your rebreather, he also creates a landslide in the cave so that you have to go put another tunnel with more than 1.3 miles of extra distance?
Don't bring him with you.

Diver A does a 2 hour OC dive, but all close to the cave entrance with a proper 30 minute reserve.

Diver B does the same dive, but with a rebreather capable of 4 hours.

Does diver B suddenly need a 4 hour bailout instead of a 30 minute one?

It depends on how long he plans to sit there waiting till the silt clears rather than following the guide line to the entrance. That the scenario that's been discussed.

That was NOT the situation described and now you are just showing yourself to be anti-CCR. Discussion is over. You are literally not even being realistic.

Sorry, this is a CCR dive planing discussion not a helium one. Apologies for the continued diversion.

well if he sits there for 35 min hes still only 30 min of gas away from the entrance but the OC diver is screwed assuming an equally similar primary gear failure

I believe a poster claimed that with a rebreather you can wait a few hours while a silt out clears, but if that's the dive plan then you have to carry enough bailout in the event the rebreather fails. Just because you get lucky and you happen to be using a rebreather is no way to plan a dive.
That was my reply to a post.

Why not follow the guidelines to the entrance in the case of a silt out. Who in their right mind would wait till silt clears no matter how much gas they were carrying.

The person who did not have a hand on the guideline when the siltout occurred and does not know where it is.
