Hi all -

I just booked my first trip to Cozumel and could not be more excited.

After reading the threads here I'll be diving with Tres Pelicanos for 5 days and staying at the Amaranto Bed and Breakfast.

The pork shank at Cielito Lindo is already on my list for a must eat, but what else would you guys recommend?

Open for things to eat, do (or not do), pack, etc, whatever comes to mind really!

Thanks!

If you love good chocolate, you've got to try Chocolateria Isla Bella.

Also, there are some local gems that don't show up on Christi's list. Pescaderia San Carlos, for one, a great little locally owned seafood market/restaurant back in the hoods - NOT open for dinner, but a great place for fresh local seafood. El Moro, WAY back in the hoods - about 75 just north of the Transversal, IIRC - take a cab. And La Perlita, a great place for lionfish and really good ceviche.

Another reminder that my list needs updated. Of course my list does only contain my favorites not everyone else's But when my shoulder heals and I can do more than peck out a paragraph or two I need to get that done!!!

El Moro and Perlita are both in my list btw :)

Spend some afternoons on the east side.
Stop at the liquor box for a fresh squeezed cocktail on the beach after the one you had at rastas while on the way to coconuts before you get to mescalitos.

We always go the other way around; Mescalito's is our first stop. DSFDF.

I recommend hiring a cab for the day to do the "wild side". We used to rent a vehicle and I had to drive, and it was a bit of a drag. I was up front being the DD and the party was in the back. No mas; it costs about the same to get a taxi grande all day as it does to rent a van (there are usually 8 or so of us), and the drivers we hire have always been very congenial, not rushing us when we make a stop. They pick us up at the hotel and drop us off when we are done, and I don't have to deal with pick up and drop off, rental paperwork, risk of an accident or DUI, etc.

If you have the time..visit the Museum in town. On Melgar (oceanfront street). It is a nice place to learn about the island of Cozumel. If you do a day trip around the island, you could also include a stop at the Lighthouse at the Southernmost of the Island. There you can also learn a bit about the history of the island as well as get THE MOST beautiful view....Just set up the stops and time with your taxi driver for the day and sit back and enjoy. Also, if you are flying in and/or out of the Cozumel airport, do take a look at the Sticky...Arriving and Departing the Cozumel airport... It is lenghty...however, it is packed full of helpful tips, which many of us had to learn the hard way..:eek::facepalm::). Have a wonderful Cozumel Vacation !
