Dont karma me little girl. I've been hit with dive karma many times. And a new report has it the tropicals are finding there way back to the tropics so they are not on a one way trip. Is that fish still in the fish bowl?

Who are YOU calling "little exactly"? *flexes muscles* ;)

Fall tropicals report: I haven't seen any in two weeks but then again I wasn't looking for them exactly and other people have seen them. I hate to burst your bubble but they ummm don't swim home :frown: They are called "tropicals" because once the water gets down to about 65F and stays there for a significant period of time they succumb.

I think Stew knows that lobzilla by its first name. We probably caught the same one or his cousin last time we were there. He took him and gave him a massage then put him back. You're right, though...probably the biggest lobster I've seen shore diving. Glad you caught some lobsters.

RIOceanographer:
Just in contrast to my RI diving, we went up to Folly Cove in MA and did a couple of dives today. We hit 43 degrees at depth. 21 degrees colder than RI the day before! On the plus side the visibility was spectacular. Easily 30 feet.

Sadly, at the end of the second dive I went to take off my drysuit and as I was pulling the neck seal to stretch it over my head I heard "POP" as the seal tore all the way from the top down to where it is glued on to the suit. GRRRRR!!!!!!! It was a nice DUI latex seal only about a year old too. I guess it must have gotten a nick in it somehow. Except for the giant tear it still looks pristine so it wasn't rotting away or anything. At least it happened when I was taking it off not putting it on so it didn't kill a day of diving.

From your picture...think I spoke to you guys briefly when we were on the way out - you were with a friend and asked about the temps - glad to hear the vis cleared up so well for you! It was about 20 ft at best when we were out first thing that morning.

Sucks about your seal - but at least you got in a few dives first, right?

We're off to South Africa in a week and a half (and...oh yes, we WILL be taking our dry suits!!) but will be back in the water here in early November - maybe we'll run into you guys again! We are hoping to do some RI dives this fall, and there is nothing like late fall/early winter on Cape Ann for great vis and low crowds.

I hope youve invested in a good fish tank heater.;)

Due to the fact that 8 of my eh hem "roommates" are poikelothermic, air-breathing vertebrates I never let it get below 68F. Additionally my butterfly fish are now in a place where they no longer have to be concerned about the temps. I still have an opposum shrimp though and he could care less about the temp. He's kind of obnoxious...maybe I'll name him Chris...:devil_3:

Back on Topic (sorry for hijacking your thread Pete but HE started it ;) ):

Pumpkin carving anybody?:D

I always wanted to do a pumpkin carving dive when I first got certified but in VT the water is too cold for me by this time of year. I think it would be fun if a bunch of us did a pumpkin carving dive then brought the pumpkins into relatively shallow water, weighted them down, put light sticks in them, and took a picture. What do you think? Any takers? :D

I hope to instigate something like that up here. A follow-up night dive would be fun too. I think some group usually runs one at Nubble Light in York.

Right now I'm trying to line up buddies to fill out Columbus Day weekend.

Hmm.... what time were you there? We arrived sometime around 11:15 am. I am pretty easy to recognize because I am 6'3" tall.

South Africa ought to neat. I can't say that I ever heard anything about diving there beyond the fact that they have some mighty impressive sharks!

If you come down to RI to dive in Novemeber there is a pretty good chance of running into me. I practically live at the dive sites here and I have no plans to stop for the winter! :D

So it turns out the real bummer about my torn neck seal was that I picked about the worst week to get a piece of dive gear fixed. This week is the DEMA show so all the people from the shops around here that could do the repair are out out of town. DOH!

Time to bring the wet suit back out of the closet for a bit.....

I've done the pumpkin carving thing. The now defunct dive shop Scuba Too did a pumpkin carving contest at Ft Wetherill last year. They gave away some decent prizes to the top 3 pumpkins and had free cider and cookies for everyone.

Unfortunately, I only brought my dive knife, whereas all the other crazies showed up with all sorts of fine surgical instruments for carving their pumpkins! I think my pumpkin placed around 300th out of the the 15 entries..... :D
