RIOceanographer:
Just in contrast to my RI diving, we went up to Folly Cove in MA and did a couple of dives today. We hit 43 degrees at depth. 21 degrees colder than RI the day before! On the plus side the visibility was spectacular. Easily 30 feet.

Wow!, I was at Pebble Beach today with Scubastew, right up the road a bit from Folly. We had 52 degrees @ 25'. You should see the Lobsters that he scored! It seemed like every time he reached down-there was one in his hand. As scubastew stated, "I have to say that this is a freak thing. I dont think I will ever match my success at this site that I had today"

There was 1 Lobzilla that he let go as, it was not only too large to keep, it was a Grand Daddy! I think I read somewhere (somebody confirm?) that the average Lobster takes 3-1/2 years just to become legal size. If thats the case, this thing HAD to have been 18-20 years old! (had to have been 8-10 lbs)

While he could have taken it and nobody would have known.......I listened to him later on shore describe how he hopes that tommorow someone else picks him up, admires him and then returns him again to the ocean floor to breed.

This was my first dive with someone from the board but, after some conversation and diving with him - I think I found a new diving buddy.

Now to get a drysuit and convince him to get one as well............

Listen here you cute little carrot top. I beat you to it. I told him because we had such great dives today someone had to pay a sacrafice and it was his neck seal.

yeah but he was taunting me YESTERDAY :devil_3:

:furious: :mad1:  :blahblah:
somebody is just upset because he couldn't see a snowy grouper even if it swam up and bit him on the nose
:28:
Let's see who the dive karma gets next!

Wife and I 'got wet' at West Hills Lake in the NW part of CT today - water and air temp was great. We had 68 deg for the top 25 feet, at about 30 feet it started dropping, I think was only like 60 tho. Vis was way reduced once we broke thru that thermoclime tho, so we just popped back up 10 feet, and had good 15'+ vis and pretty dang warm temps!

Dove with buddy John off his boat yesterday south of Boston Harbor. Surface temp was 50 with 43 at depth. Definitely time to be diving dry!

Swells and surge pushed the viz down to well below 10'.

Yeah, we were a bit deeper. We hit 65 ft on dive 1 and 45 ft on dive 2 and it was 43 deg F at the bottom on both dives. Up above 25-30ft the temp was closer to what you had.

From my experience skin-diving a lot of fresh water is on par with the warmest summer ocean water just about now. Especially the top layer.
