trymixdiver once bubbled...
to prevent users from messing with there dump valves.
I figured once I bought the suit is was my suit... dump valve and all... so I messed with my valve....

And I think I broke it.

Tell me more about this here ring that most folks remove.

Pic of the cover and ring that is supposed to prevent users from removing there exhaust valve. DUI has a special tool to get it off, tech showed me how to get it off with a very small screwdriver.

Andy

the cover just snaps on, the ring prevents the cover from coming off. The cover sits inside the ring.

The ring looks more subsantial than it is, its very thin.

just be very carefull what you use to do it. Only thing i had was a needle file but a nice small standard screw driver would work too.

Andy

I dont think you have to break / cut it to get it off, i chose to. I didnt want to pry too much. I pryed the ring away just enough to cut it.

The cover just clicks into place. it has vertical slots in its side and those are "tabs" that click onto the the rest of the unit.

Mine is apart, i just snapped i\t back on just to show you where i pryed from.

make sense ?

Andy

From the Apex manual i got with my DUI

To remove the low profile auto dump valve from the suit, press the cap to lock its rotation while unscrewing the locking nut on the inside of the suit. Repeat process when re-fitting the valve.

So i did just like the book said and it broke, $50 from what the LDS tells me to replace it. Not sure i should have to pay for it, i followed there directions. They dont even mention you cant get it off with the ring on it.

what do you think ? I will ask them Monday.

I was also told that DUI silicones the Valve to the suit and its a pain to get them off. Technically DUI says if you remove the valve you need to re silicone it down.

I have yet to get mine off my suit. I will let the tech do it when he replaces my Dump valve.

I was told the same thing about the silicone... and so far I haven't gotten it to unscrew.

Anyway I ripped the ring off with a leatherman :D that most manly of tools.

Popped the cover off... and I haven't broken anything inside other that maybe stripped out whatever little piece of plastic kept the cover from unscrewing all the way to the left... no big deal.

There is a plastic ring inside, about the size that will fit over your ring finger. Mine is snapped, i will post a pic of it Saturday if i can get it out. This is the only thing i see thats broken. I doute i can buy just this part, but who knows.

Andy

i just have to drive the 75 miles each way to drop my suit off in the morn, oh joy!
