There is a reduction in power consumption when the engine has to work less hard due to heat and other factors. If you look back at Tahoe, it took 325w to get the Sierra to pull a tech diver at 150fpm, but only 250w for the Cuda to do the same. Only real difference being the much more powerful motor in the Cuda. How are they getting an extra hour of runtime out of the same Batts?
190min at 150fpm vs 123min at 150fpm for the BT
It's not a "Giant" battery though, it's a "standard" ~1kwh battery per all of the big boy DPV's over the last decade or so. The "Giant" batteries are held by the Genesis 2.2 @ 1700wh, Bonex Discovery @2300wh, and Seacraft Ghost with 1500wh or 2000wh.The power tool batteries are an improvement over a proprietary battery like in the Suex that's for sure. But not as nice as the warp core in the Genesis.
DiveX has never really been a contender in the "long range 15hour cave dive dpv" market and I'm not sure this new offering will be accepted there either - despite the giant battery.
900-1000wh is still nearly the biggest DiveX has ever offered. It's not a "Giant" battery though, it's a "standard" ~1kwh battery per all of the big boy DPV's over the last decade or so. They haven't really been a part of cave diving because they have never really cared about the cave market in Florida as shown by their general lack of dealers, but their trigger also liked to jam on the Cuda though it looks like the new design fixes that problem.
certainly is with the exception of the Fury 1150 though that's still in the same size range as the other 1kwh units.900-1000wh is still nearly the biggest DiveX has ever offered.
Yeah, so much this..My perspective as a BlackTip owner:
The PTB setup was appealing to me for the prospect of being able to swap batteries between dives. I.e. on the same day. But, if a scooter has enough battery onboard to last all day, then my priorities are totally different.
Then, I want to be able to charge them overnight, without opening the scooter. And in that case, I would rather use the internal space of the scooter more efficiently than is done with PTBs.
In other words, the Black tip is just fine with PTBs. I would potentially carry a second pair of batteries and swap during a day’s diving.
But, for a scooter with the battery capacity of something like the Genesis 2.1, then, well, the Genesis is just what I would want. It has enough battery that I know I will not use it all in one day. At least, not for me, in my foreseeable future.
Personally, I really cannot imagine spending $7600 on a Cuda X with batteries and a charger over the same money for a Genesis 2.1 that has something like 50% more range at normal cruising speed.
Ludicrous mode sounds fun - for the minute or two that it lasts - but it appears that the Cuda X max sustained speed is basically the same as what the Genesis offers. So, while Ludicrous mode may be fun, it has zero actual dollar value, to me.
Not to mention that I really don’t care for the BlackTip trigger and would much rather have a trigger like the Genesis has. That does have some actual dollar value, to me.
Also not to mention that I have almost gotten blown off out into the shipping channel when diving the Jodrey with my BlackTip. That is thanks to a combo of having to open it every time to charge it and, apparently, getting a little bit of water inside at some point that eventually created a little corrosion on one of the PTB sockets, along with the BlackTip design’s sensitivity to battery packs being out of balance with each other and just shutting off.
After that experience, having a built-in battery pack and through-the-hull charging became a lot more appealing to me.
I did watch the Live and I was pretty excited about the Cuda X when I was thinking it could possibly be priced around $4k… At $7K, and already having batteries and a charger, it is still a total non-starter next to the Genesis.
How ready is it for future sizes of batteries... they claimed the Blacktip would be comparable with newer larger batteries.... complete made up BS.
No batteries for the Cuda or Sierra, those cells haven't been manufactured in over a decade, so you have to go third party.... the batteries even ran out of production and stock during it's hay day! Talk about proper support.
