Speculation Board at it's best lol.

There's too much yelling on this thread.

As for the other accident you mention, divers did a foolishly deep dive on single AL80's and air. It happens all the time, and sometimes it does not work out so well.

Neither incident ever smelled of cover up from anything that I read at the time they happened.

As I recall, the incident was first reported by knowledgeable people with first hand experience as a down current incident and the same people misreporting it on purpose to cover up the real negligence of those involved used the same method of shaming people into silence demanding that speculation should stop. The reality was the shaming method was used in a hopeless attempt to silence the curiosity that would ultimately lead to the truth being revealed. I suspect this is why Ron was referring to that the truth may never come out.

I've experienced the same thing years ago when discussing the train wreck building project that's been abandoned, one of the owners of one of the units pathetically admonished all discussion of the project as they have a personal stake in the values of the property.

No matter what somebodies personal reasons for squashing discussion be it that they have a personal financial stake in reputations being kept intact, or for some reason they think scuba board is a newspaper and they are the self appointed editor who's duty it is to make sure nothing but their version of the 'truth' gets discussed. I'm not on board and like Ron, I'll speculate all I want no matter how much it upsets some. And I'd say to them to keep some perspective, this isn't the New York Times, this is a forum online, if you're so quick to censor I'm even quicker to wonder what your personal stake is.

I doubt that Mike or I want to upset anyone. Neither can we stop someone from deciding to be indignant. I also suspect that neither of us will be making wild speculations such as the boat captain was using ten alien spacecraft hovering just above the water as a slalom course when he lost control and hit one of the spacecraft.

If an internal system failed and this is eventually proven as the cause, discussion of it has the potential to encourage other operators to implement better inspection and/or pre-emptive replacement programs. I am not a boat maintainer but expect that the concepts discussed apply to them in a similar manner as for cars, trucks, airplanes, trains etc.

I didn't say that. You just said there would be a full investigation and then you concluded it was negligence. And that no one had the right to know. I just thought that wasn't helpful is all. Didn't sound good and encourages that coverup thinking you are trying to avoid.

I appreciate you are providing info from Rita. I ain't in a rush at all and don't believe I said anything to imply that. Personally, I think there is probably a good explanation. It is a discussion board, so we are discussing is all. Now I gotta run to Kondessa for one more or so 'special' margarita. Kris sets a nice table....

I concluded it was negligence???/ Really???? Go back and read what I said - I said the exact opposite! Investigation, inspection, assessment of the damages - it's all SOP and implies nothing - other than they will follow SOP after an incident/accident choose whichever words make you happy.

..if the crew had only had a Steel 120 available, they could have gotten the shark to swallow it and then detonated the tank with a well placed rifle round....much more destructive than a puny AL 80! :)

try a 30 cu ft full of helium and a rifle round....way more effective. ;) regardless of what everyone is speculating. wait until the boat is ashore to see what happened. All those who were involved bringing it up worked tirelessly in the strong currents and depth. Great job on Ronnie ( Vamonos) and his crew along with Albatross to bring the boat up without fuel contamination to the reef system. Give it a rest....things were handled very quickly and efficiently here.
