This is the third incidents in Egypt this year. Anything to worry about?
Other than the complete lack of any maritime safety standards in Egypt? Of course, not it's all perfectly fine

We met with the owner and top staff of this boat at DEMA last year. Very nice folks and I feel bad for all involved. We considered booking a group trip for 2026. Guess not. Regarding the suggestions for keeping a dry bag with certain important things next to your bed, it is these types of very helpful suggestions that keep me reading Scubaboard…..even when some discussions fly way off the rails.😁

Another reminder to have a go bag next to your bunk. Passport, phone, cash, those sorts of things.
Take your own battery powered Smoke & Carbon Monoxide alarm on any overnight trip and wear a snorkel vest at least between dives. Boats are known to sink.
Water, sun hoody, prescription drugs.

A dry day pack might be the best choice so your hands are free. I know they make them for sailors.

Several options here:

Or use a standard pack and some ziplock bags. Either way, have it next to the bunk with a charged dive light clipped on.

Other than the complete lack of any maritime safety standards in Egypt?
Another reminder ... to not go on a liveaboard in Egypt.

Y'all are killing my vibe on this thread for LOB's lol.

Never done an LOB, and now I'm not sure I want to.... (any LOB, not just Egypt)

Another one bites the dust! This happens so often, part of the boat briefing should be: "When the boat starts to sink....."

There are a few quality LOB companies out there, but it takes a lot of research. Just stay away from the Red Sea.

Well the 18 French divers could easily recover their gear from the sunken boat . . . if they had their gear. Ironique!
There is still personal effects from the emperor Fraser on that wreck.

The divers drifted for eight hours before being rescued by a fishing vessel and subsequently transferred to an Egyptian Navy ship to be taken to Marsa Alam.

I wonder why it took 8hrs for them to be rescued… anyone know more about why that happened?

So there was no Mayday call from the boat and SAR never knew where to find them (or how to locate the grounded wreck as a starting point)?
