I hope Bob doesn't yell at me for this, but extending the footpocket along the bottom of the heel and improvements for the footpocket are only two of the improvements that he has planned for the ForceFin Jet. But alas, we have to wait, as he is focusing his efforts on finalizing the XXL Flying Force and the ForceFin UDT fin.

My OMS slipstream's have a foot pocket that catholic nuns use to punish students. And nobody from OMS would be caught dead taking design suggestions on an internets forum. At the planned price, they aren't a bad deal compared to the Slipstream version of Jets either.

I am sure it will take my inheritence but, hey, snappy urethane light weight Jets and UDTs, I am in, crystal blue, that is my color.

Crystal blue ForceJetfins would look great! And hopefuly work even better than the original, at a lighter weight!

Then this thread would become useless... Why choose when you can have it all!

I want pics Bob! And I am sure a lot of other guys want them too!:D

you can see the UDT fin over on the ForceFin forum

Huh... Are you seriously bragging that OMS has no interest in hearing customer feedback and input on their designs. something tells me that you don't actually speak for the company.

and the concept for the improvements to the Jet fin came long before anyone on the internet mentioned it, it was built into the Military SD-1 fin, which Bob has been developing for about 8 years now.

I hope Bob doesn't yell at you either, but my 20 year old Mares Power Plana fins have support all the way back to the heel. Very light, very comfortable, very efficient. No silly split to let the aft moving water escape and rob thrust from the fin blade. I traded my Jet Fins for the PP years ago ( I used to sell both) and never looked back. I can't speak for Force Fins as I have never used them, but I'm glad to hear they are upgrading the foot pocket to give support to where it is needed.

Now about the price...

To all the Force Fin bods out there that have posted - thanks for the input, even if some of it went straight over my head. I've opted for the Jets for the moment, cos it seems unlikely to be a bad choice even if there are better. But the price tag made that decision easy unfortunately. If I had less ex-wives, mortgages, children, could keep it in my pants more, etc. then I perhaps wouldn't have had quite as easy a decision :)

Thanks tho, I think I understand better now.

Couv, In 1981 I developed the down ward heel section on the first Force Fin model. This patented heel section is on all my fin models. The UDT and Jet Fin do not have this heel section. I plan on adding the heel concept to the remakes of these two fin's. The cost on the UDT fin will be about $280.00 in high performance tan delta material. I have seen this UDT model new for about $79.00 made out of rubber from another country. I logged well over 4,000 dives in a Jet fin and that is one reason why I started making my own fin's. Your right on with SCUBABOARD , they have me hooked. Best Bob

Hello Bob,

Thank you for your reply. I did not know that you and co. developed the first heel support fin; I applaud you for that. Of course this brings up another set of questions…After trying a heel supported fin, why make (if one is the manufacturer) or choose (if one is the consumer) a fin that does not have this feature?

Question deux: I know R&D can be rather expensive, but why such a price difference in FF and say Jet Fins? Is this a function of supply and demand? Is the manufacturing process that much more expensive or is there some other reason that escapes me?

Thank you,

Couv

Can someone give me a quick, simple answer on the difference between jets and force fins?

The biggest difference is in the user groups advocating each. On the one side you have a bunch of uberfanatics that feel nothing else is even close to measuring up...er...um...never mind. :)

COUV, You will see on the twin Jet a downward extending heel section. Most new fin designs have added this to their fins. Helps in the transfer of power. I wish I could say I was the first to notice this but saw a fin in Italy from the 40's which had a unusual heel strap system which incorporated a lip beyond the back of the fin. The heel section I developed for the Force fin's is encompassed in the total fin design. After making fin's since 1971 I have learned a lot about production methods. I have to run now to work but will give you and SCUBABOARD A detail story on fin making, later in the day. Best Bob
