I've never soaked anything. Rinsed it all with hose/shower, etc. My used reg (bought used in 2005) has had no problems other than the hose I broke getting it trapped under my tank.

Ok, I know I'm deviating from the OP's main subject a little, but the question sort of fits here. I soak my first stage while holing the second stage and HP hose end out of the water. Then just rinse the second stage really good. BUT.... I disconnect my AIR/2 from the BC and just throw it in the tub with everything else and desalt solution. I've never thought about it until now, but could I be killing my AIR/2 by doing this? I disconnect the AIR/2 mainly to get fresh water in the air bladder of the BC. But have been just chunking it in the tub as well. Thoughts?

Please stop commenting on something you don't understand. Atomics are not like every other reg. At least Lorenzoid had the decency to edit his post.

What wookie described was not a "soak" as much as a multi-stage cleaning process. If you want to dunk and forget, Atomics need to be pressurized.

Maybe you should review your physics before telling people off.

If you make sure the LP hose that connects the 2nd stage with the 1st stage makes a bend that goes above the water, it is impossible for any water to migrate through the hose from the 2nd stage into the 1st stage.

As long as that bend is in place, you can soak as long as you want.

Here is a picture I hope even you can understand.

An AIR2 does not have a seat saver. You are fine to soak it. In fact, it's good to soak it. It isn't just a regulator, there are 3 main functions to an AIR2 and they all need a good rinsing.

So the other night after a salt water dive I was rinsing all my gear in fresh water...as we all do. I put the dust cap on my first stage and submerged the whole delivery/info system to soak for about 20 minutes. (Atomic T3 first and second stage, Aqualung ABS octo, Atomic Cobalt 2 computer) yes I made sure not to press any purge buttons on regs

Today I was reading a forum post by someone who mentioned they soak their reg pressurized. If I soaked my regs not on a tank did I just put a bunch of water in my fancy shmancy gear?

As long as the dust cap was securely in place, and no purge buttons were pushed, it isn't too likely that water got in (unless you have a problem in the reg). I think you are probably ok.

The only thing I really soak besides my head? - the auto inflate button in the auto inflate device - and I put a little vinegar in the warm water too. Everything else I just rinse but I have el cheapo gear from the late 1950's and early 60's - :)

It's probably toast . I'll PM you my mailing address and you can send me the failed reg.

As others have noted, isn't the whole point in those titanium atomic regs that you just don't have to worry about these things?

Ummm. I've got kits for it, so if you ship it to ME, I'll make sure Kev gets it in working condition..... Yeah, that's it. :D

I like shiny atomic titanium regs, and I don't have a T3 yet.....

LOL Yeah that's the point of the titanium but isn't there a filter in the first stage? I wasn't sure if that was titanium too. (I'm not at home so I can't currently just go look at it)
