Since you use the word "forceful" my first guess would be slightly different amounts of venturi effect, either from a slightly different venturi setting- just because the lever is at the same place does not mean the internal working are at the same place or slightly different case geometry. In any case, it's something to do with the second stage unless your first stage was doing something it should not have been.

dunno about other countries, but here SP sells 1st & 2nd stages in any combination & I can, in fact, buy just a 1st or just a 2nd. I have, in fact, done both at my LDS which is an authorized SP dealer.

I bought a Mk11 for my wife & had a 2nd stage I already owned installed & tuned to it. Then later I changed that 2nd for an R109, then just 2 months ago I bought her a G250V for it, as she's had braces put in her mouth & the R109 is pretty heavy.

Well IF I recall correctly the reg packages SP had to choose from in their catalog, I seem to remember the mk2+ being available with a 295 2nd... and then you just add a bare 250 and use the 295 as an octo?? Or that is how your shop would order it from SP.

I ordered a 25/600 combination and it did not come with an octo, I had to order the 295 separately, a la carte. I seem to remember all the expensive regs being available for order uniquely too... this was 2 years ago, so please temper what I say with a BIG grain of salt.

hmmm doesn't seem to be so , and i can supposedly only get the g250m with mk17 or mk11 in a full set with a knight hawk bcd :( different brand maybe

either that's your shop, or they simply do things differently in south africa. I dunno, all I can report is what we can do here.

the BC is irrelevant to the reg set.

im thinking of ordering from a place in nyc in the states ... good or bad idea ? there prices are excellent , i got a bc from them a while back , but , if it breaks will i be in the poo

I've bought stuff from as far as Singapour and Hong Kong without any problem, BUT your LDS may give you a hard time for servicing; most likely, considering their commercial attitude.

That leaves you with 2 options:
  1. Buy and dive for a couple of years, sell and buy a new one.
  2. Learn to service it yourself.

hmmm ok well i wanna do self service rather anyways but and big but how difficult is it and were do i learn

About as hard as repairing your kitchen faucet, but there's an up front investment of about $100-200 in special tools and Oxy's book.

Start here. Get a feel of it. Search this and the DIY forum. Ask questions.

If you feel confident with it, then there's a whole new world for you, e.g. a MK10/G250 for 50 euros, a MK20/G250 for 100 euros, etc.. These (and others) are the stuff I've got off eBay, and they usually require very little attention.
