You can service it yourself, as long as it's done with care. There are many threads about this, do a search. The main components are 1) Parts 2) The right attitude (do it right) 3) Tools 4) Know-how (Vance Harlow's book SCUBA REGULATOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR by Vance Harlow and reg-specific guides)

One advantage of MK2 for DIYers is it's dead-simple to service. Not that the others are that much harder but the part count goes up a lot.

I'd say this though: once you realize regs don't necessarily need service every year, DIY doesn't pay from a cost-cutting perspective for an average diver. To realize savings, you gotta have a lot of regs. If you have just one or two, DIY makes sense only if you trust your work more than the technician's.

Wat u guys think about s555 and mk11 offered that at a good price

I believe I was told good price , but was never called back ha ha , iv decided to just import a g250v and mk25 / mk17 if they refuse to service it ill get the know how from SB and do it myself :) , I should have two years till it will need one from wat u guys say ... Thanks to all for the help :) much appreciated will let u know when it arrives , as for mk17 or mk 25 I'm split ha ha , they the exact same price :)

The MK25 costs quite a bit more than the MK17; if you can get them at the same price, go for the MK25. In SA, I don't think you're anywhere near water cold enough to be a problem with the MK25.

Do yourself a favor and buy an IP gauge. There are (rare) cases where the regs are shipped out of specs from the factory.

Ha ha MK 25 just went on special 425$ with th e g250 , um wat u mean by the IP gauge

A gauge to check the Intermediate Pressure, delivered by the 1st stage to the 2nd, one of the most important thing. Check couv's item #9.

The Mk25 has an extra LP port on the bottom of the first stage. I like a 5' hose on my primary, routed under my arm. That port allows me to aim the hose down to start with so it works better for this than the port location on the 11/17
