I would like to be able to use my hand truck to transport my 80 cf tank from my car to the gear set-up site at my local lake.

When I have tried to a use a bungee cord or a tight-fitting luggage strap, the tank ended up shifting and falling.

Here is a picture that is similar to my hand truck.

I was thinking of using closed-cell foam like they use to make water noodles. Does anyone have any better ideas?

BTW...this is my first DIY project but I always enjoy seeing your ideas in this forum.

When I haul my tanks around in the back of my jeep I use small ratchet straps. I got some ss ones a little more money but wont rust.

Back in the daze when I used my hand cart to transport my two tanks, dive and video gear to and from the dive park a mile away (uphill both ways), I used an old weight belt to cinch the tanks down. They were lying horizontal on the bottom with the dive gear bag on top of them and my video gear in a cooler attached at the top of the hand cart. I'm sure glad I have the Dr. Bill Mobile now... but dragging that gear around sure kept me in better shape!

I second the small ratchet strap.

Trident makes some foam tank "cradles" (p/n TA02) which would work to keep the tanks from shifting that you could use in conjunction with your bungees.

Thanks...this might just work!

Are you using that cart on a paved surface?

It wouldn't cut it where I dive. The wheels look way to small for gravel, grass, etc.

Jeff

Jeff, a wheelbarrow might be what you need then ! Its what I use to haul my gear down to my dock.. LOL!! but I guess that wouldnt be right for every situation.

It's a great idea but it wouldn't work for me. My car is about the same size as a wheelbarrow...hehe.

I use pretty much the same handtruck. Ratcheting strap would probably be the best but I just use a regular motorcycle tie down. Handles 2 HP100's with no issues. Then hauls my 2 bins in one shot. Sometimes I throw a bin on then the tank on top of the bin, and if one tank is already kited up it goes on my back.
