Captain Alan on the Blue Tang treated us to a nice trip north to the Loran Tower reefs off Hobe Sound area. Its a nice change of scenery with schools of snook and an abundance of large groupers and goliaths. We hit the water and the visibility was great. However, once we hit 50 feet, the water temperature dropped to a shocking 59 degrees. In a 30 minute dive, I saw one lionfish and two angelfish on the reef. Everything else left the area. There was a lot of activity above 50 feet with a variety of jacks and spadefish.
Then we headed home to a nice reef near the Jupiter inlet. Water temp was a cozy 75 degrees and the fish life was phenomenal. I shot a snapper for dinner and was pursued by a very large nurse shark for about a minute. It was interesting to watch it hone in on my catch. My fish made it to the cooler.
