Trip Report Hen and Chickens Islamorada 5-5-22

[deeper thoughts]

Wind stopped and excellent conditions up and down the reef line
30/40 feet viz but dusty at this reef as usual
water temp around 80 degrees
zero current
very nice fish action
Was heading further out to Alligator reef and while passing this reef the viz looked so good decided to stay
Rewarded with a cruise by of a 10 foot Hammerhead!!
5 turtles
Couple of free swimming Green morays and spotted moray
Angelfish all over but not one spadefish
Yellow tag is the first time I seen this on Hen and Chickens

Glad you got to see the hammerhead! The tag is neat, and a neat idea...having people aid monitoring a given coral by voluntarily uploading photos of it they snap on recreational dives.

For other readers........If a diver sees a new area with Stony Coral disease, they can submit the GPS coordinates to the South EAst Florida Action Network (aka SEAFAN) and they will come out. They will apply an antibiotic treatment and tag the coral like you see in the photo. We see their boat at the ramp and on the water with half dozen divers all the time in Jupiter.

Which is nice but also bad. It's like when you see Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel showup at your beach during hurricane season - You're probably gonna take a hit soon.
