you know, I sent in the form and check for my dive permit for this year about 3 weeks ago and still haven't gotten it. Has anyone gotten their 2007 permit yet? Last year I had it back in a week. I am itching to try out my new drysuit at BH before we head over to Calif again.

I have not received mine yet, sent it in 4-5 weeks ago. You are lucky that you had it back in a week last year, it took me two and a half months to get mine back.
I wouldn't let that keep you from going though, i would just take a copy of the app, canceled check, or something, and let them know if they ask that you havn't received it yet. I contacted them last year when it took so long, and they said not to worry about it because it was on the "honor system", and no one out there checks for the permit anyway, which isn't exactly true since I have been asked multiple times to show mine.

Last time I was down there, a guy came by and checked. He first asked us if we needed to buy one. He had forms, took our checks, and issued permits right then and there.
I think they are getting a little more on top of things in anticipation of the upcoming project.

Thanks for the Blue Hole letter outlining the new facility coming in Spring 2008! I heard talk of it last month. I'll be back down there Feb. 23-25

Sure that many of you have already seen this, but Santa Rosa sent out a letter packet with some stuff about the new building (supposed to be a groundbreaking in May). A copy of it is here:

That is a good question. I would be surprised if it is entirely on track. What I just heard from some friends that talked to Stella this week is that they have a shed-like building they are moving her into so they can tear down the existing building to start the re-construction.
As for joining.. it is essentially the same as a dive permit. My dad "joined" and also seperately renewed his dive permit, and he got 2 yearly permits.
