One of my pet peeves in the dive industry is an obsession from some to use as little weight as possible. This can lead to divers under weighting themselves with an inability to do a safe ascent or hold a safety stop (or deco stop) when their tank is empty and more buoyant at the end of a dive. The focus should be on proper weighting. I would MUCH rather be a couple pounds overweighted than a couple pounds underweighted.
minimal weighting = proper weighting which is exactly at, or slightly over (up to 2 lbs).

Different from underweighting and excessive overweighting.

Once certified and well read, bad advice doesn't exist. Unless you happen to frequent certain forums.

When wearing my drysuit, I have always used it for buoyancy. The only time I use my BCD when diving dry is on a 40+ metre dive when I do need to add some air. Most drysuit divers I also only use it for buoyancy.

Or taking what you spew out of your RAM as true and safe.

Yes and no. I have to add air to my drysuit as I descend to avoid a squeeze. However, air=warmth, so I might add a bit more than absolutely necessary and that might be enough to keep me neutral. It should be noted that I am an occasional drysuit diver. I am also an occasional wetsuit diver and prefer a swimsuit and T instead.

Yeah. I like to have an empty BCD and be able to control my depth with my breath alone. I've been known to dive without a BC at times in the springs here in North Florida, so optimal weighting is important. I'll be a tad heavy at the beginning of the dive and a tad light at the end. I breathe on the top of my lungs plus a little at the start and by the end, I'm breathing at the bottom and pausing on the exhale. It works well for me.

Bad advice? That there's only one way to dive or one style of equipment that you should dive in. You can still have fun in a poodle jacket with split fins if you have the skill. Gear should never be a solution to a skills problem. Certainly, some dives require certain types of gear. but for the most part, go have fun blowing bubbles.

Don't understand why we can't get rid of that clown. He's obviously disliked by everyone and he spews dangerous ideas.
Mods must have a reason, but I'm hoping they change their minds.
Because disliking someone isn’t against the rules, nor is advice that not everyone agrees with, there’s plenty of people on here that spew bs. Just ignore him if it bothers you.
